Job description

Role Overview

In this field-based role, you will support the commissioning, troubleshooting, and servicing of HVAC controls systems. You will help customers resolve building inefficiencies, respond to basic warranty needs, and deliver dependable service that keeps systems operating as designed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform assigned system commissioning using Johnson Controls configuration and commissioning tools.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic HVAC mechanical, electrical, and controls problems.

  • Respond to basic warranty calls and support customers with timely service and follow-up.

  • Load system-level controller software and perform basic diagnostics from controllers to end devices such as sensors and actuators.

  • Calibrate systems using basic electronic test equipment and complete required commissioning documentation.

  • Document changes and provide information for as-built documentation.

  • Communicate with the JCI contractor or customer upon arrival and before leaving the work site, and keep management informed of job progress and issues.

  • Complete time sheets, expense reports, on-site documentation, and other administrative tasks accurately.

  • Provide recommendations, solutions, and quotes that help improve facility efficiency and support follow-up opportunities.

  • Follow all safety standards and attend required safety training.

How You Will Do It
  • Work safely and maintain a high regard for employee, subcontractor, and customer safety in every part of the job.

  • Use Johnson Controls configuration and commissioning tools to load controller software, verify points, and diagnose issues from system-level controllers to end devices.

  • Keep the customer and internal stakeholders informed through clear, timely communication about progress, findings, and next steps.

  • Document changes, calibration results, and as-built updates accurately so service records remain complete and reliable.

  • Balance technical troubleshooting with practical recommendations by identifying efficiency opportunities and supporting quotes when additional work is needed.

Qualifications
  • Vocational School four-year program or an Associate degree in electronics, mechanical systems, computer technology, air conditioning, or a similar field plus three years of industry experience, or 1 year of experience servicing electronic and/or mechanical systems in the HVAC industry.

  • Knowledge of HVAC controls systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation, and servicing techniques.

  • Basic understanding of electrical circuitry as it relates to HVAC controls and system operation.

  • Demonstrated technical aptitude and the ability to use hand and power tools.

  • Effective interpersonal skills to represent Johnson Controls to customers and other outside contacts in an ethical and professional manner.

  • Ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical people.

  • Leadership skills to support Mechanics working on non-complex, non-critical Building Automation equipment on a job site.

  • PC experience and the ability to program HVAC-related software.

Nice to Have
  • Experience with low-voltage 0-24 volt and 120 volt wiring.

  • Ability to test, troubleshoot, and verify systems with a multimeter.

  • HVAC or building automation experience.

  • Experience working with Microsoft Excel and Visio.
