Salary Range: $43.00 To $46.00 Hourly

Community Concepts, a Maine nonprofit that provides resources to help people move forward, is seeking a Controller to join the Finance Team. The Controller is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the accounting operations and financial reporting, ensuring accurate financial records, internal controls, grant accounting, maintaining general ledger, and compliance. This is a full-time position, working in our Lewiston Office, and reports directly to the CFO.

  • Developing and managing program budgets, typical managerial duties, supervising staff, and ensuring all laws, regulations, requirements, and standards are adhered to.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor effective internal controls that safeguard assets and ensure compliance.
  • Direct all accounting operations (GL, AR, AP) to guide financial decisions and activities.
  • Oversee fiscal management of multiple federal, state, local, and private funding sources, including but not limited to Head Start/Early Head Start, CSBG, LIHEAP/HEAP, HUD, USDA, MaineHousing, DHHS Contracts, etc.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting, including but not limited to monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, cash flow, and balance sheet reconciliation reporting.
  • Support Agency financial functioning through reporting, research, analysis, and automation of financial operations, as well as partnering with the agency’s independent auditors and all organizational staff.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, and/or certified by the State Board of Certified Public Accountants preferred.
  • 5-7 years of related work experience in a leadership and managerial position.
  • Computer literacy is a must, including Microsoft Excel & Word, and accounting software.

Other Requirements:Strong understanding of fiscal policy; create usable budgets for the business; hire and oversee the members on the Finance Team; a continuous improvement mindset; offer advice to the CFO and CEO regarding spending and budget questions; comfortable with interacting with a Finance Committee/Board, detail oriented, ability to manage/lead multiple financial projects; ability to inspire a team; written and verbal communication must be able to explain financial concepts to non-financial staff; promptly and accurately find solutions to financial related challenges. Pre-employment SBI, DMV, Maine, and National Sex Offender Registry, fraud, and federal debarment background checks must be completed upon offer of hire and as a condition of employment.
