Job Description

HireIQ is partnering with an award-winning engineering consultancy to appoint a Controller as part of a planned succession within its finance leadership team.

This is an opportunity to join a well-established, project-driven engineering business and take significant ownership across the accounting function, working closely with the existing Controller and CFO during a structured leadership transition.

The Controller will have oversight across project accounting, financial reporting, FAR compliance, indirect rates, close, audits, forecasting and accounting-team leadership, with increasing responsibility across the wider finance function.

Why Should You Apply?

  • $150,000–$175,000 base salary
  • Annual bonus
  • Stock ownership opportunity
  • Defined senior leadership succession plan
  • Direct exposure to the Controller and CFO
  • Three days in office / two days remote
  • Significant ownership of the accounting department
  • 401(k) with up to 4% employer match
  • Medical, dental and vision coverage
  • Tuition reimbursement and professional development

The Role

The Controller will take ownership of key accounting operations while working closely with senior finance leadership during the transition period.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee billing, AR, AP, GL, payroll, cost accounting and revenue recognition
  • Lead monthly and annual close processes
  • Oversee project accounting, WIP, job costs and project profitability
  • Prepare executive and Board-level financial reporting
  • Manage FAR compliance and indirect-cost-rate calculations
  • Support government-agency overhead submissions
  • Lead external audits and strengthen internal controls
  • Partner with Project Managers and operational leadership
  • Support forecasting, budgeting, cash flow and strategic planning
  • Lead, mentor and develop accounting staff
  • Partner directly with the CFO and existing Controller on the transition of senior finance responsibilities

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager or equivalent senior accounting leadership experience
  • Architecture, engineering or environmental consulting experience strongly preferred
  • Strong project-accounting knowledge
  • Experience with FAR and indirect cost rates
  • Proven ownership of close, financial reporting and audits
  • Experience managing and developing accounting teams
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA preferred

This would particularly suit an experienced Assistant Controller or Controller within an architecture, engineering or consulting environment who is looking for broader ownership, executive exposure and a genuine long-term leadership opportunity.
