As a leading Carrier Refrigeration, Volvo, Hino, TICO and Isuzu dealership, Gateway Truck & Refrigeration proudly operates 16 locations across Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Tennessee. We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our hardworking, experienced, and long-standing team in Collinsville, Illinois.
As Gateway continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Controller to join our leadership team and play an important role in the continued development of our accounting and financial operations.
This is an opportunity for an accounting professional who wants to be more than just a number cruncher. The Controller will have a direct impact on how Gateway manages its financial operations, evaluates performance, improves processes, and makes business decisions.
Job Summary:
The Controller will oversee Gateway's accounting operations and financial reporting while working closely with the CFO and members of the company's operational leadership team.
The ideal candidate is a strong accounting professional who understands both the numbers and the business behind the numbers. This person should be comfortable getting into the details while also being able to step back and provide meaningful financial insight to company leadership.
This is a hands-on leadership position with responsibility for maintaining accurate financial information, strengthening internal controls, improving accounting processes, and developing a high-performing accounting team.
Because of the importance of collaboration and communication within our organization, this position is strictly 100% in person at our Collinsville, IL corporate office. Gateway does not offer a remote or hybrid work arrangement for this position.
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the company's day-to-day accounting operations.
  • Lead and manage the monthly and annual financial close processes.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial statements.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and financial records.
  • Oversee account reconciliations and balance sheet support.
  • Monitor and improve accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Analyze financial performance, including revenue, gross profit, expenses, working capital, and other key metrics.
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to the CFO and company leadership.
  • Assist with cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other accounting functions.
  • Coordinate year-end review and tax activities with outside accounting professionals.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor members of the accounting team, currently the team is made up of 4 employees.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, controls, and financial reporting throughout the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of accounting or finance experience.
  • Previous controller, assistant controller, accounting manager, or similar leadership experience preferred.
  • Previous experience of managing and growing a team.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel proficiency, including the ability to use formulas and functions, create and manipulate PivotTables, organize and analyze large datasets, and develop reports and financial models.
  • Experience managing and developing accounting personnel.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Dealership experience is preferred but not required.
  • CPA designation is preferred but not required.
