5 Star Electric, LLC (5 Star) is a premier full-service provider of electrical construction, maintenance, and repair services with offices in Western Kentucky and Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. 5 Star specializes in Distribution and Transmission Power Line work, Substation, Industrial, Commercial, Streetlighting, and Fiber installations.

Position Title: Assistant Controller

Essential Functions:

The Assistant Controller will be responsible for all accounting processes and ensuring the accuracy of the accounting systems.ย  The Assistant Controller will support the informational and procedural needs of the Controller,ย  Senior Operational and Executive Management.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the controller with the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processesโ€”ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP.
  • Implement and refine internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure audit readiness.
  • Leverage your Vista expertise to optimize reporting, automate processes, and train team members in best practices.
  • Lead process automation and system improvements in Vista.
  • Lead percentage-of-completion calculations for multi-phase projects, ensuring accurate revenue recognition in compliance with ASC 606.
  • Perform revenue reconciliations to validate project billings, costs, and margins
  • ย Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Partner with Operations to provide variance analysis, budget-to-actual reporting, and actionable insights for leadership.

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA strongly preferred).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in the construction industry, preferably utility focused construction.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, percentage-of-completion accounting, and revenue recognition standards (ASC 606).
  • Proven Vista ERP power userโ€”able to build custom reports, troubleshoot issues, and train others.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and experience with month-end close, consolidations, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency with Vista ERP and advanced Excel skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ideal candidates will have 2+ years of job costing experience.

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driverย  License is required.
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
