Job Summary
Provide diagnostic and surgical services to the patients of the Charleston Area Medical Center, Inc. and its affiliates per the terms of the employment contract.
Responsibilities
- Physician will provide care to CAMC patients in the field of Neurosurgery. Compliance with the highest standards of medical art and science will be demonstrated. Care will be delivered in the appropriate setting and coordinated with the staff present at each site. The physician will take the lead in all patient care issues and will be ultimately responsible for the outcome of the encounter.
- Physician will provide services on a full time employment basis, which may take place in the Neurosurgery Office or at any of the CAMC facilities, as dictated by need. Work activity will be comprised of patient evaluation, management, consultations, office clinic, rounding, operating room, and providing on‑call services at any of the CAMC emergency rooms.
- Physician will provide leadership in the development of the CAMC Neurosurgery program.
- Physician will collaborate with CAMC purchasing/operating rooms to continuously improve balance of quality and pricing for supplies and implants.
- Physician will coordinate recruitment of orthopedic staff and will collaborate in other neurosurgery, surgical and ancillary/adjunctive specialties.
- Physician will collaborate with physicians with patient referrals and call coverage.
- Physician will provide provider expertise in marketing of programs and will work in support of CAMC Marketing representatives/initiatives.
- Physician will provide leadership to and supervision of employed neurosurgery staff.
- Physician will demonstrate willingness to review practice related data from local, regional and national databases and other clinical quality and Value Based Purchasing initiatives to improve processes and outcomes for continuous learning and advancement of care and services.
- Physician will work collaboratively with the assigned Practice Administrator of the Neurosurgery Group for day‑to‑day operations.
- Administratively and on daily operations, Physician will report to Senior Vice President for Ambulatory Services and Regional Hospitals, or designee, including Physician Administrator. For practice and professional matters, the Physician will be subject to the authority of the CMO.
- Assure duty schedules that provide on‑site twenty‑four hour coverage for patient care and access to the service. Make necessary changes in the schedule to meet day‑to‑day patient care demands for safe and appropriate provision of care.
- Develop and implement performance assessment and improvement initiatives, including monitoring and reporting compliance with pertinent protocols and evidence‑based guidelines and improve the goals of the individual and collective clinical performance of the program.
- Direct the development and implementation of standard operating procedures, Policy Manual, evidence‑based protocols, guidelines, order sets and clinical documentation tools to support care which is safe, timely, efficient, effective, equitable and patient centered.
- Act as a liaison for the Neurosurgery program to medical staff and other hospital departments to proactively promote cooperation and effectiveness.
- Participate with Administration in the development and implementation of the business model, to assure the provision of care which is based on access, cost and quality, including accurate and timely documentation, correct coding and revenue cycle improvements.
- Assure ongoing professional development continuing medical education regarding the practice of Neurosurgery.
- Direct and coordinate all aspects of the neurosurgery program, including access, cost and quality outcome reporting.
- Continue with the provision of patient care services as a practicing clinician/surgeon.
- Support and implement new technology and quality reporting initiatives, including electronic medical records, e‑prescribing, PQRS and other initiatives deemed essential.
- Work with management, staff and providers to create an environment that promotes high levels of employee satisfaction/engagement and patient satisfaction/experience.
