Job Title: Teacher
Reports to: Principal
Education, Certification, and Experience
  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Hold or be certified in Early Childhood Education (P-5)
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides Instruction: Teaches at an appropriate instructional level; provides content development to include standards based instruction and student learning-focused content development; builds for transfer by providing initial focus, content emphasis and linking,and lesson summaries
  • Assesses and encourages student progress by promoting student engagement and monitoring student progress; responds to student performance both adequate and inadequate; supports students
  • Manages the learning environment: Uses time efficiently, handles non-instructional tasks efficiently and uses instructional time appropriately; maintains effective physical setting for instruction; maintains appropriate student behavior in the classroom by monitoring behavior and intervening when necessary
  • Follows professional practices consistent with school and system policies in working with students, student records, parents and colleagues
  • Interacts in a professional manner with students and parents
  • Is available to students and parents for conferences according to system policies
  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for educational-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
  • Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning and sending written communications
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Works cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents
  • Complies with school, system and state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies
  • Conducts assigned classes at the times scheduled
  • Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline

  • Implements designated curriculum
  • Maintains lesson plans as required by school policy; prepares instructional aides and supplemental teaching materials
  • Assigns reasonable tasks and homework to students
  • Maintains fair and accurate grading policies and procedure and attendance
  • Acts in a professional manner and assumes responsibility for the total school program, its safety and good order
  • Takes all reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, records, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Assumes responsibilities prescribed by local school system and school
  • Collaborates with peers to use and analyze data to plan individually and cooperatively for student success and achievement
  • Evaluates student progress on a regular basis utilizing a variety of methods
  • Utilizes technology in the classroom which includes but is not limited to: interactive boards, student response systems, document cameras, record keeping systems, etc.
  • Familiar with the school safety manual and instructions therein to protect students and others
  • Participates in professional learning opportunities and apply concept learned in the classroom to increase student learning
  • Effectively supervises teacher assistant or paraprofessional performance, if applicable
  • Complies with school, system, state and federal regulations and policies, including the Georgia Professional Standards Commission's Code of Ethics.
