What Is a Content Designer?

A content designer works as part of the creative team that develops the visual components of a marketing strategy or online advertising campaign. Typical duties and responsibilities are to create different visual assets of a website, social media platform, or other web services, such as a blog or online news source. While some designers work for traditional print media, this term often refers to positions in digital media. A content designer can specialize in different content, such as music or sound, but often works with visual graphics and text.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Workouts Design Team at Peloton is focused on designing new software experiences that enable people to live both healthier and longer lives. The team works collaboratively with designers across the organization to create new workout experiences, novel software interactions for new hardware products, and intuitive ways of getting the best workout at-home, outdoors, or even in the gym.
Our Content Designers work strategically and cross-functionally to help craft flows for our members with intentional content that informs and helps our users make decisions to get maximum benefit from our fitness experiences. They approach problems with an agile mentality and rapidly iterate alongside cross-functional partners.
As a Senior Content Designer, you'll partner closely with product designers, product managers, user researchers, engineers, product marketing, brand creative, and other cross-functional teams to bring features to life across our platforms.
Successful candidates are self-motivated, strategic, highly collaborative, proactive project owners, readily open to feedback and critique. They value the success of the team over their individual progress, and are often taking leadership over delivering outcomes.
YOUR DAILY IMPACT
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including UX/UI designers, product managers, UXR/Analytics, and engineering to understand user needs and product goals
  • Lead the creation and development of content strategies that influence the overall user experience
  • Craft member-centric content for a variety of touchpoints across member journeys including UI, notifications, help documentation, etc.
  • Partner with Brand and Product Marketing teams to develop and maintain a consistent tone of voice across our products
  • Conduct content audits to ensure accuracy, relevance, quality, and adherence to the style guide
  • Organize and maintain docs, decks and design files that can easily be tracked by cross-functional teams and partners
  • Work closely with other Content Designers to develop and maintain content style guide, drive and advocate for best practices, and stay in the know of industry trends that could improve content strategies
  • Help write content standards and contribute to our style guide
  • Partner with legal, localization and support teams to ensure the content is accurately and responsibly launched

YOU BRING TO PELOTON
  • 6+ years experience as a Content Designer or similar role (e.g. UX Writer, Content Strategist) in a software product environment
  • You have a portfolio that showcases your craft and demonstrates how you think and solve problems
  • A deep understanding of user experience and how content, design, research and more come together to build frictionless user flows
  • Skills to set up frameworks and brainstorm initial design concepts
  • The ability to present ideas, bring strategies to life, and incorporate feedback into your iterative work
  • Experience working with AI, including dynamic and non-deterministic interfaces
  • Comfortable working with ambiguous requirements and ability to quickly adapt and flex on direction of projects
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Cognitive awareness of wider business goals, delivering intuitive and user-centered design solutions
  • Familiarity with the design systems, interaction patterns, and limitations of cross functional platforms - specifically Android, iOS, and web apps.
