Position Title: Case Conference Coordinator
Responsible to: Director of Special Services Supervises: No supervisory duties
Evaluated by: Director of Special Services
Terms of Employment: 183 days
Evaluation Period:
- Formative evaluations throughout the school year as per MCS Performance and Assessment procedures. Annual summative evaluation prior to July 1.
Purpose of the Position: Represents the Office of Special Services and advocates for students regarding instruction, case conference needs and IEP development by ensuring that their education is in compliance with the rights that the state has deemed appropriate in Article 7.
Classified as Confidential Employee: Functional responsibilities or knowledge in connections with the issues involved in dealings between the school corporation and its employees require strict adherence to confidentiality.
Minimum Requirements: The following qualifications represent the minimum requirements necessary for an individual to perform this position effectively.
- Bachelor's Degree in Education
- Certification in two or more areas of disabilities and five years experience as a teacher of students with disabilities.
- A working knowledge of all current regulations pertaining to students with disabilities.
- Should enjoy being a change agent.
Essential Functions of the Position: The following functions have been determined by Marion Community Schools to be essential to the successful performance of this position.
- Coordinate and supervise preschool services and homebound services for students.
- Facilitate various meetings, including but not limited to the assistive technology team and the autism team.
- Consult with teachers, administrators, counselors, social workers, and staff from community youth-serving agencies prior to case conference committee meetings.
- Serve as chairperson for case conference committee meetings.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team staffing for students.
- Maintain documentation of meetings with students, parents, teachers, administrators and community youth-serving agencies.
- Demonstrate knowledge of system-wide goals and make recommendations for programming changes that reflect those goals.
- Consult with teachers on best practices in collecting, analyzing and using assessment results to plan instruction.
Secondary Functions of the Position: The following functions, while important and necessary to the position, have been determined by Marion Community Schools to be marginal to the successful performance of this position.
- Consult with various staff, and any facilities supported by the LEA on a regular schedule.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Director of Special Services.
Knowledge of:
- Policies of federal and state laws regarding the IDEA.
- Procedures and laws regarding Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
- Effective methods of assessing progress and utilizing results to increase academic achievement.
- Current research and best practices in educating children with disabilities.
Ability to:
- Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and youth-and family-serving community agencies.
- Plan, organize, and schedule priorities.
- Use independent judgment and initiative in making sound decisions and in developing solutions to problems.
- Discreetly handle confidential and politically sensitive matters.
- Make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Tactfully and courteously respond to requests and inquiries/complaints from the general public and staff.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
