M&J is seeking a CAD Operator to provide drafting, design, and technical drawing support for WMATA’s engineering and construction projects under the task order.


  • Create and update detailed 2D and 3D drawings, plans, and schematics using AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other CAD software as required by WMATA standards.
  • Prepare as-built drawings, design revisions, and redline updates based on field data and engineering markups.
  • Maintain drawing libraries, layer standards, and document control in accordance with WMATA’s CAD and records management procedures.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project schedulers, and construction teams to incorporate design changes and ensure drawing accuracy.
  • Support the development of plans for track layouts, facilities, utilities, electrical systems, and civil/structural components.
  • Perform basic quantity take-offs, dimensioning, and layout verification for engineering and construction support.
  • Assist in the preparation of presentation materials, technical graphics, and exhibits for project reports or stakeholder reviews.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with applicable WMATA CAD standards, engineering codes, and safety requirements.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure consistency and alignment of multi-discipline drawings.
  • Attend required meetings and perform other duties as assigned.

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in CAD drafting for engineering, architecture, or construction projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D and 3D) and familiarity with MicroStation.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawing conventions, symbols, scales, and layouts.
  • Experience preparing and maintaining detailed design drawings, schematics, and as-builts.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interpret engineering sketches, field notes, and markups accurately.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with technical teams.
  • Experience supporting transportation, government, or public sector clients (WMATA experience is highly desirable).
  • Familiarity with WMATA’s CAD standards, design templates, and drawing control systems.
  • Knowledge of engineering disciplines such as civil, mechanical, or electrical design preferred.
  • Certification in AutoCAD or similar CAD programs is desirable.
