Position Overview

 

The Route Sales Representative is responsible for generating new business and servicing existing customers within an assigned route. As a key representative of the Community Coffee brand, this role plays a vital part in the company’s overall sales and customer satisfaction strategy.


Key Responsibilities

 

  • Operate a company vehicle to sell and deliver products, equipment, and supplies to FSOP (Food Sales on Premises) customers.
  • Achieve financial targets for route profitability through effective sales and service.
  • Solicit additional product purchases from existing customers.
  • Collect customer payments and manage route’s daily bank deposits.
  • Maintain accurate records of sales, inventory, and deliveries.
  • Load and maintain appropriate inventory on the truck for each customer stop.
  • Ensure product freshness and manage customer inventory levels.
  • Monitor and collect delinquent accounts as needed.
  • Install, maintain, and recover coffee brewing equipment and branded merchandise.
  • Provide excellent customer service and ensure customer satisfaction on every visit.
  • Participate in trade shows and special events to promote company products and services.
  • Clean vehicle regularly and perform routine maintenance checks.
  • May be asked to perform additional duties as necessary.

 

Position Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Passing score on aptitude test required in lieu of high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • 1 year of customer sales and service experience.
  • Route sales and cold calling experience in a DSD (Direct Store Delivery) environment preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  •  Valid driver’s license required; CDL may be required for some routes.
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • DOT medical certification required.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical.
  • COVID vaccination may be required depending on customer entry requirements for specific routes.
  • Internal Only: Experience with Community Coffee, even if unrelated, may fulfill this requirement at the discretion of the hiring manager with approval from Human Resources.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will service/sell to approximately 20-30 customers per day and is required to do the following: 

  • Frequently required to sit and occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. 
  • Must be able to frequently lift 35 pounds and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds  
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. 
  • Field Sales Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be moderately loud in warehouse areas.
