Position at Samtec, Inc
Samtec, Inc., a $1B+ privately held, global electronic connector manufacturer headquartered in New Albany, Indiana, with high growth and a focus on emerging technology, is seeking a Chemical Engineering or Chemistry Co-Op interested in working in a fast paced, non-bureaucratic environment.
The co-op will work with the Plating Lab, Process Engineering and the Materials Innovation Group in order to gain exposure to various laboratory tests, electroplating techniques, and new plating research areas. The position will be responsible for analyzing electroplating baths, completing assigned projects, building trust within team members, maintaining customer focus, as well as initiating and following up on actions taken. The co-op will also contribute to fundamental and applied research in new and emerging plating technologies and methods.
The ideal candidate for this position will have the ability to work with associates in all areas of plating, be creative, passionate, and resourceful while taking initiative to explore new solutions to the issues they are presented with.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Learn the Samtec electroplating process
• Perform various analytical procedures including UV-Vis and ICP-OES to monitor and maintain the electroplating baths
• Complete post-plating quality checks, such as gold usage and porosity analyses
• Investigate customer and internal quality problems
• Work with Samtec systems to record and update plating process parameters
• Troubleshoot plating line problems
• Assist in various laboratory and plating process improvement projects
• Run a variety of electrochemical experiments while assisting in R&D projects for new metal plating and plating methodologies
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Sophomore, Junior or Senior level student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
• Excellent Written and Verbal Communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a team
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Effective time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
• Eager to gain new expertise and quick to pick up required skills
• Demonstration of flexibility, innovation, customer service, and ability to create win/win solutions
