Renaissance Economic Development Corporation (REDC), a nonprofit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance and Lending Operations Intern to assist our back-office team.
The Finance & Lending Operations Intern provides administrative and operational support to the Fiscal/Accounting and Portfolio/Loan Servicing functions within the Finance & Administration department. This role assists with document management, data entry, and loan file organization to support efficient back-office operations. The intern will gain hands-on exposure to nonprofit finance, loan servicing workflows, and internal controls within a mission-driven organization. This position reports to the Director of Finance & Administration and works closely with fiscal and portfolio staff.

Key Responsibilities (Support Role)
This role provides administrative and operational support across two core back-office functions: Fiscal/Accounting Operations and Portfolio & Loan Servicing Operations, under the supervision of the Director of Finance & Administration.

Fiscal / Accounting Operations Support
  • Assist accounts payable with verifying invoices or contacting vendors for proper invoices.
  • Support accounts payable with preparing mailings and with Positive Pay templates for banks under supervision.
  • Perform data-entry support by updating internal fiscal tracking tools (Google sheets), as assigned.
  • Scan and organize accounts payable invoices and supporting documentation into designated digital filing systems.
  • Prepare and deliver documents to nearby banks, associates, or external partners, and assist with obtaining signatures for approved and time-sensitive documents.
  •  Assist Accounts Receivable with bank reconciliations.
Portfolio & Loan Servicing Operations Support
  • File loan documents in physical storage systems, including fireproof cabinets.
  • Assist with auditing physical loan files to determine retention and storage needs, under staff guidance.
  • Scan and upload loan-related documents into borrower files and Salesforce to support accurate recordkeeping.
  • Support loan servicing updates by entering new client information, risk ratings, and related data into internal systems, as directed.
  • Mail borrower communications, including late notices sent via certified mail, following established procedures.
  • Assist with printing and assembling loan closing and modification documents for internal processing and record retention.
Administrative & Operations Support
  • Provide general administrative support to the Director of Finance & Administration and back-office staff to support day-to-day operations.
  • Support office coordination tasks such as organizing files, preparing mailings, and assisting with materials and supplies, as needed.

What We’re Looking For
  • Current college student or recent college graduate pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Public Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong interest in nonprofit finance, operations, loan servicing, CDFIs, and community economic development.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage documents, data entry, and administrative processes accurately.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort working with internal teams and systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace; experience with Salesforce, accounting systems, CRM platforms, or document management systems is a plus (training provided). Excel spreadsheet experience is required.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating as part of a mission-driven, cross-functional team.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment when handling confidential financial, organizational, and borrower information.
  • Interest in gaining hands-on exposure to nonprofit operations, internal controls, compliance, and audit support.

What You’ll Gain
  • Hands-on exposure to nonprofit finance and operations within a mission-driven organization.
  • Practical experience supporting loan servicing, fiscal processes, and internal controls.
  • Training on real-world systems such as Salesforce and internal financial tracking tools.
  • Insight into compliance, audit preparation, and document management in a regulated nonprofit environment.
  • Professional development through collaboration with experienced finance and operations staff.

Internship Details
  • Schedule: Flexible; part-time (10-15 hours per week) during the semester; full-time option in summer.
