POSITION SUMMARY

The Brokerage Carrier Capacity Manager operates in a player/coach role, combining hands-on freight execution with leadership and team development responsibilities. This position is responsible for overseeing real-time tracking and tracing, managing carrier capacity, and ensuring consistent load coverage and service execution across all shifts, including after-hours operations.  The role requires direct involvement in daily operations while coaching team members to improve performance, accountability, and service quality. The Capacity Manager partners closely with Carrier Sales, Dispatch, and Customer Service to proactively manage freight, resolve issues, and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION

  • Manage load coverage and ensure adequate carrier capacity is secured across all freight, including high-volume and critical shipments
  • Oversee and actively participate in real-time tracking and tracing of all active shipments to ensure on-time pickups, deliveries, and accurate status updates
  • Provide hands-on support for escalations, including missed pickups, late deliveries, service failures, and in-transit disruptions. 
  • Lead and support after-hours and weekend freight operations, ensuring continuity of service and timely issue resolution. 
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members in tracking, tracing, and carrier operations functions. 
  • Monitor and enforce communication standards between carriers and internal teams to ensure visibility and accuracy. 
  • Utilize TMS and tracking technologies to monitor load performance, tracking compliance, and exception management. 
  • Drive accountability for KPIs such as on-time performance, tracking compliance, and responsiveness.
  • Demonstrate a consistently positive and professional demeanor, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment
  • Encourage constructive dialogue for the team, even during periods of change or challenge
  • Handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity. Uphold confidentiality standards in all communications and decisions, ensuring trust and compliance with organizational policies and legal requirements
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of employee interactions in accordance with HR policy

OTHER SIGNIFICANT JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE

  • Assist with onboarding and continuous training programs for new and existing team members
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement process improvements to enhance service levels 
  • Collaborate with Carrier Sales to strengthen carrier relationships and improve network reliability
  • Analyze performance data and trends to identify opportunities for improvement in carrier performance and service execution
  • Support cross-functional initiatives related to capacity planning, scalability, and operational excellence 
  • Provide real-time communication to leadership regarding service risks, delays, and capacity constraints
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance, along with being available in an on-call status
  • Comply with company policies and procedures and all applicable laws and regulations 
  • Perform additional duties as assigned 

Requirements

  REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required 
  • 3-5+ years of experience in transportation brokerage, logistics, or supply chain operations 
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a leadership, supervisory, or team lead capacity 
  • Proven experience managing freight in a fast-paced, high-volume environment


PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field 
  • Experience in a brokerage environment with carrier capacity, dispatch, or carrier sales exposure 
  • Experience managing multi-shift or after-hours operations 
  • Demonstrated success in improving operational KPIs and team performance


REQUIRED SKILLS (TECHNICAL, CLERICAL, LANGUAGE, ETC.)

  • Proficiency in Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and load tracking platforms 
  • Strong understanding of freight lifecycle, carrier operations, and brokerage workflows 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in time-sensitive situations
