What are bookkeeping virtual assistants?

Bookkeeping virtual assistants are professionals who provide remote bookkeeping and financial record-keeping services to businesses or individuals. They handle tasks such as managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling bank statements, preparing financial reports, and organizing receipts and invoices. By working virtually, they help businesses keep their finances in order without the need for an in-house bookkeeper, often saving time and reducing overhead costs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Bookkeeping Virtual Assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Bookkeeping Virtual Assistant, you need foundational knowledge in accounting principles, attention to detail, and experience with bookkeeping tasks, often supported by relevant coursework or certifications. Familiarity with accounting software like QuickBooks, Xero, or FreshBooks, as well as proficiency in spreadsheet tools, is typically required. Strong organizational skills, reliability, and effective written communication help you manage remote client relationships and multitask efficiently. These skills are crucial for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting business operations, and building client trust in a virtual environment.

Are virtual bookkeeping jobs legit?

Virtual bookkeeping jobs are legitimate positions that involve managing financial records remotely using accounting software like QuickBooks. They often require basic accounting skills, attention to detail, and sometimes certification, but job seekers should verify the employer's credibility to avoid scams.

How do I become a virtual bookkeeper?

To become a virtual bookkeeper, you typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, proficiency in accounting software like QuickBooks or Xero, and knowledge of bookkeeping principles. Gaining relevant experience or certifications such as the Certified Bookkeeper designation can improve job prospects and credibility in a remote work environment.

How does a Bookkeeping Virtual Assistant typically collaborate with clients and accounting teams remotely?

As a Bookkeeping Virtual Assistant, you will often work closely with clients and accounting teams using cloud-based accounting software, email, and video conferencing tools. Regular check-ins and clear communication are essential to keep financial records accurate and up-to-date. You may be responsible for tasks such as reconciling accounts, processing invoices, and generating financial reports, often with deadlines that align with client needs. Building trust and maintaining confidentiality are key, as you handle sensitive financial information from a remote environment.

How much do bookkeepers make in VA?

Bookkeeping virtual assistants typically earn between $15 and $30 per hour, depending on experience, skills, and the complexity of tasks. Some may charge a flat monthly rate or project-based fee, with rates increasing for specialized knowledge or advanced accounting software proficiency.

Is AI replacing bookkeepers?

AI is automating certain tasks within bookkeeping, such as data entry and reconciliation, but it does not fully replace bookkeepers. Bookkeeping virtual assistants and professionals still require skills in financial analysis, oversight, and client communication that AI cannot replicate. Human judgment remains essential for complex financial decisions and ensuring accuracy.

Company Description

We offer Business Consulting Services with our focus on Bookkeeping for small businesses. 2020 presented new challenges by working virtually not in our clients offices. Lakeshore Consulting became 90% remote and yet still managing Paper, which in hindsight, we should have pivoted to paperless sooner. Our goal is to establish and maintain a comparable cloud based filing structure. We have great clients with a variety of business types and enjoy supporting them in their business goals.
