Bookkeeping assistants are expected to remain in demand due to ongoing needs for financial record-keeping in various industries. The role benefits from familiarity with accounting software and attention to detail, with employment growth driven by small business needs and regulatory compliance. However, automation and accounting technology advancements may influence future demand levels.

AI technology is automating certain bookkeeping tasks such as data entry, reconciliation, and report generation, which can increase efficiency. Many bookkeeping assistants now use accounting software with AI features to support their work, but human oversight remains essential.

What is an entry-level bookkeeper?
