Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, invites applications for the Boiler Operator in the Facilities and Engineering Department. The candidates duties will include, but not limited to: Responsible for proper operation of the Central Boiler Plant; maintains operational and maintenance records of the Boiler Plants, Main Boilers, Auxiliary Boilers, and Main and Auxiliary Steam distribution systems and associated equipment; must be able to work and support work on rotating shifts including, nights, weekends, holidays and emergencies supervising the Central Boiler Plant in proper operation, maintenance and repair of associated steam producing equipment. The candidate will also be responsible for the following:

  • Assists in maintaining maintenance records, equipment certification records, water chemistry and chemical inventory records
  • Assists in maintaining all DEHC records, including fuel records for the Boilers and Emergency Diesel Generator
  • Responsible for operation, maintenance, repair and testing of the Emergency Diesel and auxiliary equipment including fuel oil pump, fuel oil coolers and cooling systems.
  • Responsible for proper electrical distribution of emergency power to the campus.
  • Responsible for complying with all DHEC requirements and maintaining all operational data for DHEC reports and inspections.

Minimum Qualifications:

A high school diploma and four(4) years' experience in the related boiler trades area. Work conditions subject to 24 hour emergency callout on evenings, weekends, and holidays, including extreme weather and climatic conditions of humidity, heat and cold. Must be capable of: repetitively lifting objects weighing 50 pounds to waist height and transporting a distance of 10 feet; working off roofs, scaffolds, ladders and platforms at high elevations up to 100 feet off of the ground.
