Job description

WORK OPTION: The NBA currently provides eligible employees the option of working remotely one day per week.
Group Summary
The NBA's Global Basketball Operations Department is responsible for overseeing and enforcing the policies, procedures, and administration that govern the playing of the game. This includes managing on-court activities, developing playing rules, and enforcing player conduct standards. The department works closely with all 30 teams, their front offices, coaching staffs, and players to protect, enhance, and advance the sport globally.
Position Summary
The Global Basketball Operations Analyst supports the league's competition-related functions through a combination of administrative oversight, data analysis, and event operations with a main focus on assisting with the player health program. In addition, this role will ensure compliance with NBA rules and policies, manage game-related logistics and assist in data aggregation efforts to inform strategic initiatives. The Analyst also provides operational support for league events.
Major Responsibilities
Player Health Initiatives
  • Assist and ensure team compliance with the injury reporting rules and the Participation Policy throughout the season.
  • Conduct research and analysis on player health and Basketball Operations aimed at improving the on-court product.

Game Administration
  • Manage the inputting and management of daily team portal activity, including team practice schedules, travel and hotel information
  • Review, confirm and circulate active lists, daily box scores and referee game reports.
  • Assist in the daily categorizing of player conduct results.
  • Maintain and update the League Operations App.
  • Manage review of non-NBA summer leagues and charity games.
  • Assist in the collection of statistical plays for enhanced statistician and auditor education.
  • Collect and monitor courtside staff submissions and background checks.
  • Assist in preparation for scorer's table memos and manuals.

League Events
  • Provide on-site support for key Basketball Operations projects and events such as the NBA Cup, All-Star Weekend, NBA Draft Combine, NBA Finals, NBA Draft and NBA Summer League.
  • Assist in participant ticket allocation for the All-Star Weekend and NBA Draft.
  • Maintain college prospect profiles in Combine Central.

Analytics
  • Organize data, generate insights, and prepare reports for department and undertake follow-up analysis as directed.

Miscellaneous
  • Support logistics for off-site league operations meetings, including setup and coordination.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as warranted.

Required Education/Professional Experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience in data modeling and analysis (e.g., Excel).
  • Experience in project management as well as people management and development.
  • Prior experience in basketball operations or a related field is strongly preferred.

Required Skills/Knowledge Attributes
  • A minimum of 5 years of corporate experience, preferably in a team or league office setting.
  • Strong passion for basketball and deep knowledge of NBA personnel.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail; ability to articulate ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Analytical problem-solver who is also a highly motivated self-starter.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs)
  • Experience with data extraction (e.g., SQL) and data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI)
  • Self-starter with exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to communicate with a nontechnical audience and deal effectively with senior management.
  • Exceptional project-management skills, preferably in a league office setting.
  • Proven ability to thrive and provide servant-oriented leadership in a fast-paced environment, preferably in a league office setting.
  • Proven ability to successfully navigate uncertainty, complexity, and pressure-filled situations.
  • Must exercise good judgement and be able to maintain confidentiality with sensitive projects.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and particularly PowerPoint.

Salary Range:
$85,000-$95,000
