Job description

SUMMARY

The Brooklyn Nets Basketball Operations department is seeking a passionate, innovative, and collaborative Full-Stack Basketball Systems Developer to design and build software solutions that improve the efficiency, connectivity, and decision-making capabilities of the team's Basketball Operations department.

This individual will work across the full software development lifecycle-from planning and architecture through deployment and ongoing maintenance-building applications that enable the Brooklyn Nets to make faster, smarter, and more informed decisions. The ideal candidate thrives in an environment of ownership and autonomy, enjoys solving complex technical problems, and is passionate about creating intuitive tools that have a direct impact on an NBA franchise.

This position is part of Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment but is dedicated exclusively to the Brooklyn Nets Basketball Operations department. Unlike many roles that support multiple business units across the organization, this position works directly with the Brooklyn Nets every day, building technology and systems that power basketball operations and competitive decision-making.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain full-stack web and mobile applications that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Basketball Operations workflows.
  • Build scalable internal software solutions that support player evaluation, scouting, coaching, roster management, and front office decision-making.
  • Partner closely with Basketball Analytics developers to plan, architect, develop, test, and maintain basketball software applications.
  • Collaborate with analysts and data scientists to integrate player evaluation models, predictive analytics, and basketball metrics into user-friendly applications.
  • Develop intuitive user interfaces that emphasize usability, performance, and thoughtful user experience for coaches, scouts, and front office personnel.
  • Maintain and extend complex software systems while identifying opportunities to improve architecture, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, and collaborative development processes using GitHub and modern software engineering best practices.
  • Build secure APIs and backend services that support data integration across Basketball Operations systems.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, optimize application performance, and continuously improve software reliability.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions that provide a competitive advantage for the Brooklyn Nets Basketball Operations department.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • 3-7 years of professional experience developing full-stack applications in a production environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong proficiency with React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Experience developing across the full technology stack, including browser technologies, Node.js, APIs, SQL, and backend services.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, systems design, and developing scalable, maintainable applications.
  • Experience designing and extending complex codebases with multiple interconnected components.
  • Strong understanding of UI/UX principles with a passion for creating polished, intuitive user experiences.
  • Experience collaborating in GitHub-based development environments, including version control and code reviews.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and take ownership of projects from concept through deployment.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Strong passion for the NBA and a genuine interest in applying technology to basketball operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building mobile applications or progressive web applications.
  • Experience integrating analytics platforms, data visualization tools, or business intelligence solutions.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience working with sports analytics, player tracking data, or performance technologies.
  • Experience working alongside data science or machine learning teams.
  • Familiarity with Python or R for data-driven application development.
  • Experience with modern DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized deployments.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Passionate about basketball and excited by the opportunity to build technology that directly impacts an NBA franchise.
  • A systems thinker who enjoys solving complex technical and organizational challenges.
  • Curious, creative, and always looking for better ways to improve processes and user experiences.
  • Highly collaborative and comfortable working across technical and basketball-focused teams.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality, maintainable software.
  • Energized by fast-paced environments where priorities evolve throughout the basketball calendar.

COMPENSATION

Salary Range: $150,000-$170,000 + Benefits

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is based primarily in the Brooklyn Nets Training Center located in Industry City, Brooklyn.

The successful candidate should expect to work non-conventional hours aligned with the Brooklyn Nets basketball calendar, including evenings, weekends, holidays, training camp, preseason, regular season, postseason, NBA Draft, Summer League, free agency, and other key Basketball Operations events. Flexibility and availability during critical basketball periods are essential to success in this role.

This role may require regular travel in support of the Brooklyn Nets Basketball Operations department. Travel may include team road trips, training camp, Summer League, NBA Draft, scouting events, free agency, and other basketball-related activities.
