POSITION SUMMARY
The Athletic Director at Navigator Academy of Leadership is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing all aspects of the interscholastic and intramural athletic programs across NAL campuses. This role ensures that athletic programs align with the school's mission of developing principled, character-driven student leaders and comply with all applicable Florida charter school, FHSAA, and district regulations. The Athletic Director serves as a visible leader who promotes sportsmanship, academic integrity, and student well-being.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Athletic Program Management
โข Plan, develop, and oversee all interscholastic and intramural athletic programs across NAL campuses
โข Coordinate athletic schedules, practice times, game logistics, and facility use
โข Ensure all programs comply with FHSAA rules, district policies, and NAL/Compass Charter Schools guidelines
โข Maintain accurate records of student eligibility, physicals, and athletic clearances
Coaching Staff & Personnel
โข Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate all head and assistant coaches
โข Provide professional development, mentoring, and performance feedback to coaching staff
โข Ensure all coaches meet required certifications, background check requirements, and CPR/first aid training
Student-Athlete Development
โข Promote academic accountability โ monitor student-athlete grades and eligibility requirements
โข Foster a culture of character, leadership, and sportsmanship consistent with the NAL Leader in Me framework
โข Serve as a mentor and positive role model for student-athletes
โข Coordinate with counselors and teachers to support the academic success of student-athletes
Budget & Operations
โข Develop and manage the athletic department budget in coordination with campus administration
โข Oversee procurement of equipment, uniforms, and supplies; maintain athletic inventory
โข Ensure all athletic equipment and facilities are well maintained, regularly inspected, and kept in safe, working
condition โ including but not limited to basketball hoops, soccer and athletic fields, volleyball nets, and all other
athletic-related equipment
โข Coordinate transportation logistics for away games and events
โข Explore and pursue grant funding, sponsorships, and community partnerships to support athletic programs
Community & Communications
โข Serve as the primary point of contact for athletic-related communications with parents, community members, and media
โข Plan and promote athletic events to engage the broader school community
โข Build relationships with local businesses, booster clubs, and community organizations
โข Represent NAL at district, regional, and FHSAA meetings as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
โข Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Sports Management, Education, or a related field
โข Minimum 3 years of experience in athletic administration, coaching, or a related role
โข Knowledge of FHSAA rules, regulations, and compliance requirements
โข Valid Florida teaching certificate or administrative credential (preferred)
โข CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire)
โข Ability to pass a Level 2 background screening as required by Florida charter school law
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
โข Experience working in a charter school or similar educational setting
โข Master's degree in Athletic Administration, Education Leadership, or related field
โข Experience with student leadership or character development frameworks (e.g., Leader in Me)
โข Demonstrated success in budget management and grant/sponsorship development
โข Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
