DESCRIPTION
Port Angeles High School is seeking a Girls Junior Varsity Basketball Coach (JV) for the winter season. The Assistant Coach will serve as the Junior Varsity Head Coach, working under the direction of the Head Varsity Coach to support all aspects of the girls basketball program.
The JV Coach is responsible for leading the junior varsity team, including planning and conducting practices, coaching contests, and supporting the development of student-athletes within the overall program. The position plays a key role in building program continuity by developing skills, systems understanding, and team culture aligned with the varsity program.
The successful candidate will foster a positive and inclusive team environment that emphasizes sportsmanship, effort, discipline, and academic success. The Assistant Coach will ensure compliance with Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) regulations, league rules, and district athletic policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous coaching or playing experience in basketball preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basketball fundamentals, rules, and game strategy
  • Ability to plan and lead practices and games at the junior varsity level
  • Ability to teach and reinforce program systems and player development goals
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Coach and coaching staff
  • Commitment to promoting sportsmanship, effort, and team culture
  • Ability to supervise students and maintain a safe environment
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn WIAA rules and eligibility requirements
  • Must meet or be willing to obtain all WIAA coaching certification requirements
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain prior to the season
  • Must be willing to complete all district-required safety training
  • Ability to maintain student confidentiality and follow district and school policies
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
