Job Function: The Vice President of Men's Basketball is responsible for developing, implementing and providing continuous improvement of a strategic plan to govern and enhance the Division I, II, and III Men's Basketball Championships and the National Invitational Tournament. This position will lead the internal operations team and assist with the policies and procedures that, as determined by the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee and NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Oversight Committee, ensure a positive experience for student athletes and maximize operational and financial benefits for the NCAA. Job Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership for Men's Basketball under the direction of the Senior Vice President for Basketball, while working in close strategic partnership with the Vice President of Women's Basketball, Broadcasting, and Corporate Relations to align and advance a cohesive vision for basketball that ensures coordinated decision-making and supports the best interests of each championship.
  • Additionally, lead collaboratively together with the Senior Vice President of Basketball the strategic vision and planning for the ongoing creative growth and success of the Division I Men's Basketball Championship with the goal of keeping the event contemporary yet preserving the history and tradition that have made it iconic.
  • Lead and manage all business operations for the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship (incl. preliminary rounds). Serve as the leader and collaborate with NCAA staff (e.g., men's and women's basketball, broadcast, finance, legal, lodging, public and media relations, risk management, social media, ticketing, travel) and other stakeholders (e.g., consultants, functional leaders, working group members) for matters related to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.
  • Serve as primary liaison to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee, including working to develop a strategic agenda, conducting regular meetings with the chair and vice chair, assigning projects stemming from the committee meetings, facilitating the selection, seeding and bracketing process for the Division I Men's Basketball Championship and continuously evaluating processes and procedures related to the Division I Men's Basketball Committee.
  • Serve as primary liaison to the Executive Director and Board of Directors of the Men's Final Four Local Organizing Committee (LOC) including serving as the main point of contact to the Executive Director on all matters related to the planning and operation of the Men's Final Four, assisting with the development and structure of the LOC, developing and monitor LOC financial reports, and advising and monitoring the LOC's execution of the Men's Final Four.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Men's Basketball Oversight Committee (MBOC) and other key basketball constituent organizations (e.g., National Association of Basketball Coaches, National Basketball Association, USA Basketball, National Federation of State High School Associations, Federation of International Basketball, Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on non-championship men's basketball matters. Attend semi-annual and annual meetings, develop and focus on strategies, materials, and speaking points aimed to maintain the popularity and development of college basketball, liaising with internal NCAA departments on initiatives and day-to-day inquiries and monitor student-athlete health and safety, sportsmanship and integrity, game operations, technology, and statistical trends of men's basketball.
  • For the Division I Men's Basketball Championship, liaise with CBS, TNT Sports and NCAA Corporate Champions & Partners, together with the NCAA Championships Engagement unit, by providing insight and guidance on marketing, fan events, branding and game presentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Education Required: Bachelor's degree required; Advanced degree preferred.
  • A minimum of ten years of athletics administration experience, with a priority in experience directly administering large sporting events or championships at a conference office.
  • Experience with marketing and sponsorships preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of committee and meeting management.
  • Experience working with basketball rules, governance, and compliance required.
  • Demonstrated success translating strategy to execution.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to travel extensively (up to one hundred days per year), contact and availability on an extended daily basis (after hours, weekends).
  • Estimated Travel Required < 50%
  • This position will be based out of the national office in Indianapolis, Indiana. Current work environment is hybrid; 2 days in the office and 3 days are remote.
