Overview

Avaya UC Infrastructure Engineer (2026-24845-F):

Bowhead seeks an experienced Avaya UC Infrastructure Engineer to support Base Telecommunications System operations at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ. The Avaya UC Infrastructure Engineer will provide technical expertise in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Avaya switching systems and associated telecommunications infrastructure supporting mission-critical voice services.

This position serves as a key technical resource responsible for maintaining switching systems and supporting telecommunications operations in accordance with contract requirements.

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include: 

  • Perform system administration and operational maintenance in accordance with telecommunications operations and maintenance requirements with little to no oversight.
  • Manage software updates, configuration changes, and system upgrades associated with voice infrastructure.
  • Document maintenance actions, system changes, and troubleshooting activities in accordance with contract documentation requirements and report to leadership.
  • Operate and maintain the Avaya CM10 switching system and associated telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Support configuration, troubleshooting, and restoration of voice services within the Base Telecommunications System.
  • Perform system backups, database administration, and system configuration management for switching equipment.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and repair of telecommunications outages, trouble tickets, and service disruptions.
  • Coordinate with telecommunications technicians and network personnel to resolve voice system issues and restore services.
  • Maintain switching equipment and associated hardware in accordance with manufacturer technical manuals and contract requirements.
  • Support adds, moves, changes, and deletions of telephone circuits and services.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Qualifications
  • Education
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Technical training in telecommunications, networking, or information technology is preferred.
  • Years of experience
    • Minimum of ten years of experience supporting telecommunications switching systems or voice network infrastructure.
    • Experience operating and maintaining enterprise voice systems or telecommunications switching platforms is required.
  • Required skills or certifications
    • Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining Avaya CM10 switching systems.
    • Working knowledge of telecommunications switching systems and associated voice infrastructure.
    • Ability to perform system configuration, troubleshooting, and operational maintenance of enterprise voice systems.
    • Knowledge of telecommunications operations and maintenance procedures supporting voice and unified communications systems.
    • Ability to diagnose and resolve telecommunications service outages and switching system faults.
    • Familiarity with telecommunications databases, system backups, and system administration processes.
    • Ability to read and interpret telecommunications technical documentation and system diagrams.
    • Strong technical troubleshooting skills and ability to work in mission-critical telecommunications environments.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: There are currently no Security Clearance requirements for this position; however, candidates must be able to successfully pass a background check.  Due to the location of this work, US Citizenship is required.  Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement if necessitated by business needs or contractual obligations.
