Job description

Medical Records Coordinator

In keeping with our organization's goal of improving the lives of the Guests we serve, the Medical Records Coordinator maintains the health records of all Guests in the facility and provides administrative support to the nursing department in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.

This position includes evening manager shift rotation which is 11a-7p as well as weekend manager rotation which is 8:30a-5p.

Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1. Maintains the health records of all Guests in the facility in a secure manner and in compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

2. Establishes, develops, maintains and updates filing system for the medical records department. Retrieves information and files when needed.

3. Verifies and inputs diagnoses codes for new admission paperwork.

4. Maintains forms and paper communications at Nursing Stations.

5. Maintains up-to-date records of individuals allowed to view Guest records.

6. Respond to requests for medical records from outside the facility.

7. Types and designs general correspondences, memos, charts and tables in regards to Guest information. Proofreads copy for spelling, grammar and layout, making appropriate changes. Responsible for accuracy and clarity of final copy.

8. Reports all hazardous conditions, damaged equipment and supply issues to appropriate persons.

9. Assure that established infection control and standard precaution practices are maintained at all times. Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies.

10. Maintains the comfort, privacy and dignity of Guests and interacts with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect and promotes a caring environment.

11. Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with Guests, visitors, families, peers and supervisors.

12. Answers and respond to call lights promptly and courteously when working in Guest care areas.

13. Reports all Guest concerns to the appropriate department head.

14. Attend and participate in departmental meetings and in-services as directed.

Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
