About the Role

The Director on the Household Products is a leadership role responsible for driving profitable growth, margin performance, and customer value perception across all Family Dollar's stores. Caring for our customer's and their families is at the heart of every decision we make.

This role is a key leader in Family Dollar's transformation journey, shaping how total wellness and beauty assortment will appeal to our loyal shoppers. Working across multiple stakeholders, the role embeds financial acumen, disciplined approach to talent development, and strategic longer-term vision with executional excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Category Strategy & Ownership
    • Own P&L performance, including sales, margin, inventory turns, and GMROI
    • Develop and execute comprehensive category strategies aligned to company goals
    • Identify growth opportunities through assortment optimization, pricing, and promotions
  • Vendor Management & Negotiation
    • Lead strategic vendor partnerships, including sourcing, negotiations, and contract management
    • Drive cost savings, improved terms, and innovation through supplier collaboration
    • Conduct regular business reviews with key vendors
  • Merchandising & Assortment Planning
    • Oversee product selection, lifecycle management, and assortment planning
    • Leverage customer insights and data analytics to inform decisions
    • Ensure alignment with seasonal, promotional, and trend strategies
  • Financial & Analytical Leadership
    • Analyze category performance and implement corrective actions to drive results
    • Develop forecasts, budgets, and long-range plans
    • Utilize data tools to uncover insights and improve decision-making
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Partner with supply chain, marketing, planning, and store operations teams
    • Ensure strong execution of category initiatives in-store and online
    • Support promotional planning and marketing campaigns
  • Team Leadership
    • Lead and develop a team of category merchants
    • Foster a high-performance, accountable, and collaborative culture

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Merchandising, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • 8-10+ years of experience in retail merchandising, category management, or procurement
  • 3-5+ years of leadership experience
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Proven track record of driving sales and margin growth
  • Advanced analytical skills with experience in assortment and financial planning
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, value-driven retail environment

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in value channel retail, household products, or consumables categories
  • Background in private label development and driving category penetration
  • Familiarity with pricing strategy and promotional optimization
