What is an associate analyst?

Associate Analysts are entry- to mid-level professionals who support senior analysts or managers by conducting research, analyzing data, and preparing reports in their area of expertise. They often work in fields such as finance, business, marketing, or data analysis. Their responsibilities typically include gathering and interpreting data, identifying trends, and providing actionable insights to help organizations make informed decisions. This role is ideal for individuals looking to build analytical skills and gain experience in their chosen industry.

What are some common challenges associate analysts face when transitioning from academic settings to a professional environment?

Associate Analysts often find that adapting to the fast-paced, deadline-driven nature of professional environments can be challenging compared to academic settings. Unlike structured coursework, projects in the workplace may require juggling multiple tasks, collaborating across departments, and responding to shifting priorities. Developing strong communication and time management skills is essential, as is learning to interpret and present data insights tailored to business needs. Support from more experienced team members and training programs often help new analysts bridge the gap and succeed in their roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Analyst, you need strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and a relevant degree in fields like finance, economics, or business. Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, or business intelligence platforms, along with experience in data visualization software, is often required. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively help distinguish top performers in this role. These skills are crucial for accurately interpreting data, providing actionable insights, and effectively supporting decision-making processes within an organization.

What is the difference between Associate Analyst vs Data Analyst?

AspectAssociate AnalystData Analyst

Work EnvironmentEntry-level, team-based, corporate or consulting settingsData-focused, analytical tasks, often in tech, finance, or healthcare
Employer & Industry UsageCommon in finance, consulting, and corporate sectorsWidespread across industries like finance, marketing, healthcare

The main difference between an Associate Analyst and a Data Analyst lies in their scope of responsibilities and experience level. Associate Analysts typically handle supporting tasks and data collection, while Data Analysts focus more on interpreting data and generating insights. Both roles require similar educational backgrounds and certifications, but Data Analysts usually have more advanced technical skills and experience.

Do associate analysts make a lot of money?

Associate analysts typically earn a starting salary that is below senior-level roles but can vary depending on industry, location, and company size. Entry-level salaries often range from $50,000 to $70,000 annually, with potential for increases as they gain experience and develop skills in data analysis, reporting, and tools like Excel or SQL.

How do you become an associate analyst?

To become an associate analyst, candidates typically need a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as finance, economics, or data analysis. Gaining experience through internships or entry-level roles, developing skills in data analysis tools like Excel or SQL, and demonstrating strong analytical and communication abilities are important steps in the process.

Job description

At JPMorgan Chase, we don't just follow marketing trends, we set them. Our Marketing team is pioneering the use of artificial intelligence to drive smarter, faster, and more impactful solutions. We're seeking an Associate to provide support on our Marketing AI Initiatives, orchestrating innovation across the firm and ensure we stay ahead of the curve and the competition. Performance Marketing, Operations & Transformation (PMOT) serves multiple stakeholders and diverse business goals across the Chase Marketing business and beyond.

As a Marketing AI Program Analyst-Senior Associate on the Performance Marketing and Transformation team, you will support the day-to-day execution, tracking, and governance of Marketing AI initiatives across the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) organization and key partners. You will help keep a portfolio of AI proofs of concept (POCs) and pilots organized and moving-maintaining plans, statuses, dependencies, and documentation-so leaders can make fast, informed decisions.

This role also supports the Marketing-owned Marketing AI Sandbox, helping manage intake, maintain execution trackers, coordinate approvals, and support measurement and reporting. You will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders including Technology, Data/Analytics, Legal/Compliance, Privacy, Controls, and Risk to help ensure innovation is delivered responsibly.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain portfolio artifacts to support a governed set of AI POCs and pilots (e.g., initiative trackers, milestones, RAID logs, decision logs, action items).

  • Support POC/pilot execution by coordinating working sessions, capturing outcomes, and tracking follow-ups to closure.

  • Help identify and flag risks (timeline slippage, resourcing constraints, dependency conflicts, control/approval gaps) and escalate appropriately.

  • Produce clear, concise status updates for working teams and leadership (e.g., weekly summaries, dashboards, portfolio readouts, meeting notes with decisions and actions).

  • Help collect and organize performance inputs (quantitative and qualitative) to support business-impact narratives (e.g., efficiency gains, cycle-time reduction, quality uplift).

  • Translate complex updates into structured, executive-ready content (what happened, what's next, what's needed, what's at risk).

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • 3+ years of experience in program coordination, project management, operations, marketing operations, technology delivery, or transformation support.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce crisp summaries and action-oriented updates.

  • Comfort working with cross-functional stakeholders (business, technology, analytics, and control partners) and navigating structured processes.

  • Proficiency with common program management and documentation tools (e.g., trackers, decks, meeting notes, status reporting).

  • Curiosity and learning mindset-interest in AI, marketing technology, and how innovation is delivered safely in a regulated environment.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience supporting AI, data, martech, or automation initiatives in a marketing or digital environment.

  • Familiarity with marketing delivery ecosystems (e.g., email operations, paid media/digital channels, content workflows, measurement/analytics).

  • Experience with governance-oriented delivery (supporting documentation, approvals, and control steps).

  • Ability to structure ambiguous requests into clear problem statements and next steps.
