Job description

Steadfast Farms is hiring an Assistant Production Supervisor for our USDA-inspected poultry processing facility in Bethlehem, CT.

We are veteran-owned and operated, and we run Connecticut's only USDA-inspected poultry slaughter and processing facility. More than 180 farms across the Northeast rely on us to bring their birds to market. Our facility is certified to process organic poultry under USDA Organic standards, and we are New England's only Certified Humane Slaughter operation for Animal Welfare Approved flocks by A Greener World.

HACCP certification is preferred, not required. If you don't have it, we will pay to get you certified.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

You'll report directly to our Facility Manager, lead a 12-25 member production team, and step in to run the plant when the Facility Manager is out. This is a floor-level leadership job, not a desk job.

  • Train and develop the production team using hands-on coaching and demonstration, not just instruction
  • Motivate the crew to hold or increase pace without sacrificing quality or safety
  • Delegate clearly and verify the work was completed correctly
  • Interview and hire to keep the crew staffed
  • Keep the plant compliant with USDA, HACCP, SSOP, GMP, and OSHA standards
  • Hit the KPI targets set by the Facility Manager — yield, efficiency, labor cost, line speed
  • Complete and verify daily production records
  • Build and run a preventive maintenance schedule for all processing equipment
  • Order supplies so the line never stops for a preventable shortage
  • Improve SOPs to increase efficiency and reduce waste
  • Learn and use our ERP system (Odoo) for production records, inventory, and reporting
  • Maintain customer and vendor relationships, including calls and email

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Required:

  • Previous experience as a team leader, shift supervisor, or comparable management role
  • Working knowledge of HACCP, SSOPs, GMPs, OSHA, and USDA regulations — or the ability to learn them quickly
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Comfortable with technology and able to learn a company ERP system
  • Valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle
  • 18 or older, able to commute to Bethlehem, CT

Preferred:

  • HACCP certification (we sponsor and pay for it if you don't have one)
  • USDA-regulated processing, poultry, or food manufacturing experience
  • Experience with AI platforms and tools
  • Experience running preventive maintenance schedules

PAY AND BENEFITS

  • PTO and Sick Time
  • Federal holidays off, unless the needs of the business require otherwise
  • HACCP certification sponsored and paid for
  • Complimentary food program and employee poultry discounts

SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS

The facility runs Monday through Friday. Operations start as early as 6:30 AM and the plant is under USDA inspection from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Cleaning begins after inspection and runs until complete. The facility closes for approximately two weeks around the winter holidays; that time is unpaid.

This is physical work in a processing environment: standing and moving throughout your shift, manual lifting and carrying, and exposure to noise (85+ decibels), heat up to 99°F, cold down to 0°F, moisture, and live and raw animal odors. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

As a veteran-owned and operated company, we especially encourage veterans to apply.

Steadfast Farms Poultry Processing & Slaughter, LLC is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, ancestry, age, disability, genetic information, marital or civil union status, pregnancy, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal or Connecticut law.
