JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Production Supervisor plays a vital role in supporting production activities to ensure the efficient, high-quality processing of fresh produce. Working closely with the Production Supervisor, this role involves overseeing daily operations, coordinating production schedules, and ensuring adherence to food safety and quality standards, including HACCP and GMP requirements. The Assistant Production Supervisor assists in monitoring line productivity, minimizing waste, and optimizing processes for handling, packaging, and shipping fresh produce. This role requires a keen attention to detail and an understanding of perishable goods handling to maintain product freshness and quality. Additionally, the Assistant Production Supervisor provides on-the-floor support to staff, addresses any issues promptly, and contributes to continuous improvement efforts to enhance operational efficiency and safety.

Requirements:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for and may be called on to perform any or all duties assigned to lead persons by the company
  • Responsible for performing supervisory duties as assigned by the Supervisor
  • Responsible for (in the absence of the Supervisor) assuming and performing all supervisory duties as designated by the company. (See job description for Production Supervisor)
  • Meet and maintain company objectives and efficiency standards for: Pounds per manpower, Overtime, Yield, Safety, Quality, Sanitation, Waste, and Customer specification
  • Maintain a high level of morale in the production room by: Treating employees with respect and addressing them by name, Refraining from using harsh language, and Being fair and impartial when making judgments


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Frequent to constant standing and walking during shifts.
  • High-pressure environment to meet production schedules.
  • Exposure to product fumes (e.g., onions, peppers) and cleaning chemicals (e.g., chlorine).
  • Constant exposure to varying temperatures, including 45°F or lower.
  • Work may include overtime as required.
  • Flexibility with schedule is required: AM shift, weekends and holidays
  • Work involves interacting with production staff and other departments.
  • Required to maintain a high level of morale and professionalism on the production floor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent to occasional bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of products weighing 5 to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent repetitive hand motions (e.g., writing, handling produce).
  • Ability to perform supervisory duties, including training staff on safety and operational procedures.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Possess verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in fresh food or production environment
  • Must have own transportation
  • Must have a working knowledge of English language
  • Basic Mathematical abilities
  • Ability to interact across departments
  • Ability to train/enforce staff on safety requirements
