The Assistant Operations Supervisor is responsible for production, shipping, and sanitation operations of the White Castle Bakery during the absence of the Operations Supervisor and/or QA Sanitation Supervisor. This person will typically work during different hours than the Operations Supervisor for the purpose of having adequate management coverage during plant operations. The duties include, but are not limited to, human relations, quality assurance, safety, sanitation, scheduling (production and team members), training and development of team members. Assistant Operations Supervisors are expected to uphold and demonstrate the Company’s Core Values. This position description does not contain a comprehensive list of required duties and responsibilities. The position is expected to perform related duties assigned by management, which may be added, revised, or eliminated based on business and operational needs, with or without advance notice. Assistant Operations Supervisors must follow the direction and guidance of the Production Supervisor, Operations Supervisors and Plant Manager.


 WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • High School Diploma or GED required;
  • Prior Lead experience with White Castle preferred;
  • Supervisory experience preferred; and
  • Previous training and experience in the baking industry obtained through education or experience is preferred.
  • Good interpersonal and human relations skills with ability to maintain a positive professional demeanor accepting responsibility and willingness to learn;
  • Knowledge, training, and experience with production, sanitation, quality, and safety;
  • Ability to select, train, develop and motivate staff and teams;
  • Good verbal communication skills, and effectively give clear instructions to direct and motivate team members;
  • Possess knowledge of OSHA 10 or the ability to complete the compliance class;
  • Must have good employee relation skills, be team oriented and work well with others, give and receive direction, and follow clear and detailed instructions;
  • Acquire knowledge through training and coach and train others on equipment procedures and workplace health & safety procedures;
  • Ability to make decisions concerning personnel problems, production, sanitation, and shipping;
  • Efficiently work and respond in a fast-paced environment to meet operational demands;
  • Possess capability to stay focused and accomplish multiple tasks independently with little supervision and within established timeframes;
  • Must be able to operate a forklift;
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and be able to make on the spot decisions to keep equipment running;
  • Strong knowledge of food safety principles including SQF required;
  • Good understanding of HACCP, SSOP, GMPs, and knowledge of FDA regulations.
  • Proficient computer experience with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and warehouse management software (ERP/WMS);
  • Ability to read PH & Color meters and thermometers;
  • Aptitude to complete AIB Principles in Baking courses;
  • Must know how each piece of equipment operates and be able to function efficiently in any of the production line positions which is acquired through observation and hands on experience;
  • Possess good math skills, and knowledge of inventory procedures, team member time keeping systems and scheduling is required, either through education, training and/or experience;
  • Must be able to successfully complete on-the-job training; and
  • Must be flexible to work hours to meet the needs of the plant, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Supervise bun production to ensure that quality buns are produced and packaged in the most efficient and cost-effective way;
  • Maintain the quality assurance program in place such as quality check sheets and HACCP check sheets;
  • Maintain accountability of employees under your supervision to complete objectives and to do quality work;
  • Supervision of the production sanitation team members and their essential functions to ensure that goals and objectives are met;
  • Assist the Warehouse Supervisor in the supervision of the Warehouse;
  • Train, evaluate, and supervise team members;
  • Assign and direct employ work and provide guidance to them in performing their duties with particular attention to human resources, safety, sanitation, and efficiency;
  • Conduct team member safety meetings and verbal daily work assessments;
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Production and Sanitation Departments during assigned shift;
  • Train and develop the Production and Sanitation team members regarding their essential functions, safety and GMP’s;
  • Communicate and seek guidance on any employee relations issues from the Operations Supervisor and Plant Manager;
  • Prepare team member appraisals, disciplinary warnings, newsletter articles, food safety inspections, and safety inspections;
  • Attend necessary seminars or classes as mandated; 
  • Keep up to date with regulations and OSHA related laws;
  • Comply with incident reporting policies and procedures;
  • Ensure adherence to plant’s security and safety policies and procedures, and a safe working environment for all Team Members; and
  • Communicate effectively with customers and all levels of the organization in a professional manner, display a positive demeanor and be responsive to team members’ needs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Some physical effort and lifting required, particularly when shorthanded and assisting various teams within the bakery;
  • Ability to work in an environment with occasional exposure to noise, heat, cold, fumes, smoke, cleaners, and other elements;
  • Ability to wear safety gear including safety glasses, and other various types of safety gear supplied by the company;
  • Frequent periods of standing, sitting, and walking; and
  • Ability to hear, comprehend, and professionally respond to co-worker inquiries, comments, and concerns.
