Job description

The Operations Supervisor will be to guide, organize, and direct the hourly workforce in conjunction as well as managing plant operations on the AM shift. This position will plan and schedule production and mining activities to meet production goals as well as work towards controlling plant costs through effective planning and management.

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or combination education and on-the-job experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of in similar capacity preferably in mining.

  • Knowledge of the field's policies, procedures, and practices. 
  • Leads and directs the work of other employees.
  • Limited authority for personnel decisions related to hiring, performance, or disciplinary actions, time is often spent completing the similar tasks as the subordinate employees.

  • Prior experience supervising in a manufacturing environment, mining industry preferred

  • Experience supervising others in a union environment preferred.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with quickly changing priorities based on business needs.

  • Strong time-management skills to successfully manage a variety of projects and assignments 

  • Collaborative management style with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.

  • Strong troubleshooting abilities and ability to use quick judgement to made sound decisions which keep the plant operating.

  • Excellent Computer skills:  Microsoft office, Outlook, Excel, Kronos.

  • Proactive focus on operations management.

  • Manufacturing experience preferred

  • Manage the production lines or areas by planning and directing work to assigned crews while ensuring production and quality specifications are being met safely and efficiently
  • Additional Duties and tasks as assigned
  • Plan and schedule necessary downtime with production departments

  • Communicate production issues to Operations Manager and identify areas for improvement 

  • Manages specific production & maintenance areas as directed by Operations Manager

  • Assist the Operations Manager with the development and execution of safety plans

  • Performs administrative duties required to meet job goals including planning, scheduling and reporting 

  • Follow and promote all safety regulations and report any hazardous conditions immediately 

  • Assist Operations Manager to ensure development and execution of production activities as outlined within the operations plan

  • Supervise plant operators and ensure work is completed as assigned, participate in the interview selection process, recommend disciplinary actions and resolve minor employee relations issues. Work to maintain a positive working relationship with the bargaining unit represented plant employees.
