Job description

We are looking for an Editorial Assistant to support publication quality and accuracy for a non-profit organization. This contract opportunity is ideal for a detail-focused editing specialist who enjoys refining scientific content and collaborating with authors and production colleagues. The person in this role will help prepare written materials for publication while maintaining consistency with established editorial standards and meeting project deadlines.
Responsibilities:
• Edit and polish scientific manuscripts to ensure correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and consistent application of editorial style guidelines.
• Partner with a small production team to move copyediting assignments through the workflow efficiently and on schedule.
• Coordinate with authors to review revisions, resolve questions, and bring documents to final publication readiness.
• Carry out additional proofreading, editorial review, and document refinement tasks based on publishing needs.
• Support publication operations through administrative and clerical duties connected to editorial projects.
• Verify written content for clarity, consistency, and accuracy across materials before final release.• Bachelor’s degree or higher in English is required; academic exposure to geology is beneficial but not essential.
• At least three years of experience in editing, copyediting, or related project-based editorial work using defined style standards.
• Strong command of English usage, including grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure.
• Proficiency with common publishing and editing tools such as Microsoft Word, OneDrive or SharePoint, and Adobe PDF applications.
