Job description

What will you be doing in this role:

The Director, Application Development is responsible for the strategic leadership, delivery, and ongoing optimization of the enterprise application portfolio supporting Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM, Payroll, and UKG platforms. This role champions portfolio execution across implementation, enhancement, and stability efforts while ensuring alignment with Cedars-Sinai's enterprise systems strategy and business priorities.

This leader provides direction across strategic, tactical, and day-to-day operations, leading all aspects of system implementation, future releases, optimization initiatives, and production support. The Director is accountable for delivering high-quality outcomes, managing risk, and ensuring successful execution of initiatives that impact enterprise workforce, payroll, and operational capabilities.

Portfolio Leadership & Strategy

  • Own and manage the application portfolio roadmap, including prioritization, sequencing, and investment decisions across Oracle Fusion HCM, Payroll, and UKG platforms 
  • Lead the implementation, future releases, and sustained support of enterprise applications, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and the ERP roadmap 
  • Develop and execute long- and short-range plans for system enhancements, upgrades, and optimization initiatives 
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI, automation, and analytics capabilities, to drive innovation and continuous improvement across the portfolio 

Delivery Execution & Operational Excellence

  • Lead delivery across implementations, enhancements, and support for complex, cross-functional initiatives
  • Manage and resolve issues across internal teams and vendors to ensure continuity and performance
  • Establish governance for intake, prioritization, decision-making, and status reporting
  • Ensure execution discipline, delivery quality, and performance across workstreams
  • Oversee budget performance and drive accountability for outcomes across the Oracle HCM, Payroll, and UKG portfolio

Business Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with HR, Finance, and operational leadership to align application capabilities with business strategy, workforce planning, and operational needs 
  • Serve as a primary liaison to executive leadership, delivering clear, concise updates to C-suite stakeholders and senior leaders 
  • Communicate system strategies, project status, and outcomes to business and IT stakeholders, ensuring alignment and transparency 
  • Develop strong cross-functional relationships to address complex business and system challenges 

Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Direct the operations of the application portfolio team, including staffing, budgeting, and overall team performance 
  • Manage, coach, and mentor staff to build functional and technical capabilities, strengthen delivery processes, and foster a high-performing team culture 
  • Establish departmental goals, monitor progress, and report on performance and outcomes 
  • Assess the operating model and define resource requirements (financial, technical, and human capital) to support portfolio execution 

Innovation

  • Drive evaluation of AI and advanced capabilities within the application portfolio, including AI agents, automation, and embedded analytics 
  • Lead integration with enterprise data platforms, including FAIDP, to enable scalable analytics, reporting, and decision support 
  • Advance the use of natural query language capabilities to improve business user access to workforce, payroll, and operational data 
  • Collaborate with Data & AI teams to align application data structures with enterprise data models and AI strategies 
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems, and organizational effectiveness through intelligent automation and data-driven insights
Experience Requirements:

Nine (9) plus years of experience with application development in a sophisticated multi-platform environment. Experience and expertise in a wide variety of software development, client/server, relational database, systems integration, and networking technologies.

Experience and expertise in project management, systems analysis, customer relations, and vendor contract negotiation and management.

Experience and expertise with enterprise business systems applications and understanding of the needs and priorities of business customers.

Four (4) plus years of direct work experience in a management capacity, including vendor packaged systems implementations; or meaningful work experience, including at least 2 years implementing and/or supporting healthcare software applications.

Experience in managing teams in complex enterprise-level implementation and support of vendor-supplied software. Experience in managing multiple work streams. Experience leading and motivating staff.

Five (5) plus years of preferred experience in a Clinical or healthcare operations experience. (e.g. clinic management experience, nursing or other healthcare professional experience, etc.)

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field of study.

Master's Degree preferred.
