Job description

BIOFerm™ is currently looking for a Sales and Business Development Director to lead the company’s growth strategy in the RNG and broader biogas sector by identifying, developing and closing opportunities for EPC and technology supply projects in North America. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on identifying and securing EPC project opportunities while building and cultivating a strong client base. The ideal candidate combines technical knowledge of renewable gas projects for gas production and upgrading from Anaerobic Digestion, Landfill and Wastewater sources with strong commercial instinct and ability to build long lasting relationships across developers, municipalities and potential technology partners.

This position will work closely with the executive leadership, technical sales support, engineering and delivery teams to manage sales operations, including implementing a strong and sustainable sales strategy and cultivating relationships with new customers.

BIOFerm™ is a Wisconsin-based renewable energy company providing turnkey anaerobic digestion and gas upgrading facilities. Committed to sustainable and economical organic waste diversion, BIOFerm™’s digester and gas processing technology harnesses biogas from fermenting organics—food waste, manure, biosolids, etc.—and converts it into valuable green energy, vehicle fuel, heat and organic products enabling biogas producers to profitably upgrade biogas to renewable natural gas (RNG).

Essential Job Functions:
  • Develop and execute a sales and market development plan aligned with company growth goals and target sectors (AD, landfill gas, WWTP, and biogas upgrading)
  • Identify and qualify new project opportunities from developers, owners, and strategic partners
  • Grow client base by identifying potential clients in agricultural and industrial sectors that would benefit from BIOFerm’s systems
  • Develop potential leads into viable projects with developers, owners and strategic partners providing information about BIOFerm technology offering, carbon offsets, renewable energy grants
  • Interact with potential clients, evaluate, and understand requirements and provide accurate technical information to estimate costs of an appropriate system
  • Review and negotiate project contract
  • Assist system application engineering in completing feasibility studies, including biogas production estimates
  • Manage inside and outside sales teams
  • Represent the company at tradeshows and conferences – networking, obtaining sales leads, writing abstracts, giving technical presentations, and staffing company booth
  • Research and understand the market, competitors and their projects, feedstock sources, and possible projects to pursue. Track policy, incentive, and market trends influencing the RNG industry (e.g., LCFS, RINs, IRA credits)
  • Review responses to RFP's, RFI's, etc. managing the full business development cycle — from lead generation and prequalification through proposal, negotiation, and contract execution
  • Collaborate with the estimating and engineering teams to develop competitive proposals, pricing strategies, and scopes of work
  • Develop and maintain an accurate CRM pipeline, forecast EPC bookings, and track KPIs.
  • Lead contract negotiations in collaboration with legal and executive teams
  • Serve as the primary client contact through project award and handover to project execution
  • Travel to field sites to speak with clients and gather information
  • Develop and manage sales network and build strategic partnerships with technology licensors, equipment suppliers, financiers, and consultants to enhance the company’s value proposition
  • Other responsibilities as assigned


Competencies & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related field
  • 15+ years of relevant experience selling capital projects or major equipment, over $5M preferred within the RNG, biogas or related energy sectors
  • Ability to effectively discuss and present technical concepts to C-level executives
  • Experience with and knowledge of anaerobic digestion processes, strong understanding of RNG project development including feedstock sourcing, upgrading technologies, interconnects, and financial structures is preferred
  • Great interpersonal skills and professional personality
  • Be comfortable communicating on a technical level when working with outside customers and the internal engineering team
  • Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness and desire to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team on several tasks/projects
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, oral and written
  • Be comfortable with public speaking
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Willingness to travel and valid US passport required
