The Accounting Assistant is a key member of the finance team, responsible for supporting daily accounting operations with a focus on payroll processing, journal entries, updating financial reports, general ledger reconciliation, and assisting with physical inventory counts. This position requires attention to detail, proficiency with accounting software, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

So, what will you be doing as an Accounting Assistant?

  • Payroll Processing: Prepare, review, and process payroll for employees, ensuring compliance with company policies and federal/state regulations.  Includes collecting and verifying timesheets, attendance records, and other payroll documentation.  Will calculate wages, overtime, deductions, and incentive pay.
  • Journal Entries: Record and post journal entries in the accounting system, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
  • General Ledger Reconciliation: Perform monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Physical Inventories: Assist in organizing and conducting physical inventory counts, reconciling inventory records with actual counts, and reporting variances.
  • Serves as the backup for processing purchase orders, freight charges, and rod receiving.
  • Answering and directing phone calls and other communications to the appropriate personnel.
  • Greeting visitors and providing them with general information or directing them as needed.
  • Filing, organizing, and maintaining physical and digital records, documents, and correspondence.
  • Performing other clerical tasks to support day-to-day office functions.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping roles.
  • Familiarity with payroll processing and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (such as QuickBooks or SAP).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Attendance/Punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time.
