Job description

This position requires you to be working in office, 3 days per week, from our Bala Cynwyd, PA office.
Position Summary
The Training Manager is responsible for leading the delivery of training that drives performance across Pep Boys store and field operations. This role oversees a team of field trainers and ensures consistent, high-quality execution of training programs focused on sales, customer experience, and core operational processes.
The Training Manager partners closely with Operations, Training Design, and key business stakeholders to ensure training is practical, relevant, and aligned to business priorities. This role is accountable for how training shows up in the field, ensuring it is delivered effectively, reinforced through application, and continuously improved based on feedback and results.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of field trainers, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance management
  • Drive consistent execution of training delivery across regions (in-store training, VILT, hands-on support)
  • Partner with Operations leaders (MSLs, QSLs, RDs) to align training priorities with business needs and ensure adoption in the field
  • Ensure training is applied in the field, reinforcing a learn-practice-check approach through observation, coaching, and follow-up
  • Collaborate with Learning Experience Design team to provide input on content needs, gaps, and field feedback
  • Monitor training effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement based on field performance, feedback, and business results
  • Support rollout of new initiatives and programs, ensuring trainers are prepared and training is delivered at the right time and in the right way

Education and Experience
  • 5-8 years of Technical Skills
  • 3-5 years of Supervisory experience
  • Strong understanding of retail, service, and/or field-based operations

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and effective training delivery methods
  • Understanding of sales and customer experience behaviors that drive performance
  • Familiarity with blended learning approaches (in-store, VILT, eLearning)
  • Awareness of how training connects to business performance
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Ability to coach and develop trainers to deliver high-impact learning
  • Strong partnership and influence skills across Operations and corporate teams
  • Ability to translate business needs into training priorities
  • Strong execution mindset with focus on consistency and quality
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment

People Management
  • This position is responsible for the direct management of Field Trainers of approximately 4- 8 direct reports, with span of control varying based on regional coverage, business needs, and trainer deployment model.
  • Responsibilities include hiring, onboarding, performance management, coaching, and development of Field Trainers to ensure consistent, high-quality training delivery across all assigned markets. The Training Manager is accountable for building trainer capability, reinforcing delivery standards, and ensuring alignment to business priorities.
