OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibility includes but not limited to the evaluation of Sales opportunities as detailed below and providing pragmatic solutions aligned with engineering and industry best practices for the safe storage of the products in Tanks and Pipelines.

For Sales Opportunities:
  • Provide initial assessments of new Sale Opportunities.
  • Lead, Coordinate and update the BRT Checklist, with PMs, on Engineering efforts for Sales Opportunities.
    • Evaluate and develop the Scope/Basis/Cost & Schedule Estimates, with Stakeholder approvals, for Sales Opportunities.
    • Direct and guide the Process Engineer to support as needed on scope development and to review final package before Stakeholder approval.
    • Participate in any associated hazard reviews.
    • Continually work to improve the Business review process to support short turnarounds of customer requests.
    • Participate in the BRT Technical Review Committee.
      • Capture outcomes in the BRT Checklist.
      • Send out emails as needed on outcomes and action items.
      • Participate in hazard reviews of Sales Opportunities.
    • Operations to lead COS management, coordinating, and reporting. Sales to insure all needed information is in the CRM, and to lead the weekly updates of Sales Opportunities.
      • Engineering Manager to capture the key status elements of Sales Opportunities in the BRT Checklist.
      • Engineering Manager to prompt Sales for any missing or additional data to fully develop evaluations and outfittings needed for Sales Opportunities.
    • Provide process engineering efforts needed for new customer outfittings.
    • Maintain and keep current the marine jetty and vapor return line status tracker, as well as the tank status update, specifically relative to all customer outfittings.
      • Long term to lead marine jetty & vapor return line optimization for changing needs, as well as utility system changes needed new customer needs.
Provide the process engineering support for the Terminal, as needed to address Operating questions/issues, incident investigations & associated action items, new outfittings, needed utility understandings/optimizations, relating to QHSE limits:
    • Liquid and vapor pressure drops.
    • Heat loss and gain.
    • Pressure buildups and drops.
    • Determining vapor phase concentrations.
    • Carbon and liquid scrubber absorptions.
      • Support resolving chiller and carbon vessel renting issues, only as needed.
    • PVSV capacities.
    • Control logic.
    • Creating PFDs.
Responsible for providing ad-hoc technical engineering support and guidance to departments within the US terminals organization.
    • Seek, evaluate, and implement industry new best practice/pragmatic solutions.
    • Role will investigate and provide recommended solutions on incidents and issues, with a focus on chemical process related to products currently being handled and contemplated for future business, as well as utility systems.
    • Provide project support in the form of detailed scope and design reviews, system installation inspections, and commissioning services, to ensure safe and compliant system performance and reliability.
Continually work to reduce incidents and improve Engineering productivity and quality, related to all the above.
    • Promote and encourage good ideas as put forth by others.
    • Assist with Engineering interviewing and training efforts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provide support, coordination, and engineering of BRT/Sale Opportunity efforts.
  • Responsible for providing process & technical engineering support and guidance to departments within the US terminals organization.
    1. Assist Operations, Maintenance, other engineers, managers, and colleagues with finding process & technical solutions to identified issues.
    2. Act as an internal resource to the project engineering group and make recommendations on system development, improvements, optimization, or support efforts.
    3. Review as needed, the design and engineering work performed by consultants and contractors, to help ensure engineering, quality, Operations friendly, and QHSE standards are being met.
    4. Develops operating methodologies to ensure safe start, run, and shutdown of tank and utility systems.
    5. Ensures utility systems are efficient, operating at peak performance with minimal energy waste.
    6. Serve as an internal resource on all matters related to chemicals and utilities to other engineers within the group on project related matters.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
  • In case of absence:
    • Engineering Manager to fill in or support.
      • The Process Engineering or PMs to provide updates to the Sales Opportunities the PMs are supporting.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS degree in chemical engineering, or related engineering field.
  • 10+ years of experience in logistics and process and/or utility engineering at a chemical terminal, chemical plant, refinery or multi discipline engineering firm.
    1. Specifically comfortable with performing engineering with spreadsheets and with little or no support, limited historical/field data, and willing to endorse one’s final design.
  • Full facility experience with comprehensive understanding of logistics, utility infrastructure, and coordination with multiple departments, specifically Operations, Maintenance, and QHSE.
  • Experience and working knowledge with a wide range of chemicals and all their properties; including reactive, physical, health, hygiene, fire & safety.
  • Experienced and comfortable at conducting multiple projects at the same time, wearing multiple hats, and executing assignments with minimal direction and oversight.
  • Experienced and effective at leading or managing teams.
  • Have solid communication capabilities, specifically the ability to provide executive summaries on complex and technical topics.
  • Provide/show a portfolio demonstrating all of the above.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Occasionally: standing, climbing stairs to top of tanks at terminal, bending over, reaching overhead, crouching, kneeling, balancing, pushing or pulling, grasping, lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds, touching, discriminating colors.

Frequently: sitting, walking, walking in or out of terminal and through turnstile, repetitive use of hands/arms, lifting or carrying up to 10 pounds, eye/hand coordination, talking, keyboarding/typing, thinking analytically, producing unique or creative solutions to problems, receiving and transmitting information accurately using oral and written communications, concentrating on tasks, remembering details, making decisions, adjusting to changes, examining/observing details, using math/calculations, using English language correctly.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Occasionally: working irregular hours or on call, wearing PPE, working outside and in hot/cold temperatures, working around electrical hazards, falling hazards, heavy machinery, sharp objects/tools, heights, excessive noise exposure, hot temp devices, vibration; working in difficult interpersonal situations, travelling domestically, travelling locally between two Houston offices.

Frequently: working around exposure to fumes, gases, odors, dirt, dust, grease, oil, and mud; maintaining composure and professionalism under emotional distress.
