Job Description

This is a children’s ministry role for the Mclean Bible Church Montgomery County Location (MBC MoCo). Montgomery County is the largest county in Maryland with a population of over one million people. It’s widely known for its ethnic and cultural diversity, economic affluence, high percentage of adults with postgraduate degrees, as well as being a hub for scientific research and US government offices. Montgomery County, along with bordering areas, provides a unique opportunity to reach the nations for Christ in a post-Christian context.

MBC MoCo is a multigenerational church family that includes young adults, families, transient professionals, and long-time residents, representing all kinds of ethnic, social, and cultural backgrounds. Although we’re diverse in age, we remain steadfast in creating ministry environments that strategically evangelize and disciple the emerging generation. Kid’s Quest (KQ) is our ministry to infants-5th grade children that aims to encourage and equip children to be disciples of Jesus Christ who makes disciples. KQ averages about 220+ children in attendance on Sunday mornings and requires our largest volunteer team at MBC MoCo.

The KQ Ministry Coordinator is a part-time position (25 hours a week) that supports the KQ Director with the daily operations of all KQ ministry activity. This individual must have the capacity to create efficient and effective systems to increase the impact and productivity of the KQ ministry, while empowering staff and volunteers to feel energized and inspired to contribute their best. The KQ Ministry Coordinator must whole-heartedly support the vision and mission of MBC and relish the opportunity to work toward their fulfillment. The KQ Ministry Coordinator also assists as a leader in the Sunday morning ministry programming for children.

Duties and responsibilities (Essential Functions)

The following items describe some of the ways this individual will accomplish this task:


Spiritual Life:

  • Live an exemplary Christian life by pursuing daily time in God’s Word, prayer, regularly attending corporate worship, Scripture memory, and opportunities to share his or her faith.
  • Pray regularly for MBC MoCo families and KQ volunteers.

Ministry Operations:

  • Assist the KQ Director with the day-to-day operations of Kid’s Quest ministry.
  • Support the volunteer recruitment and onboarding process for KQ, Rock (middle & high school students) & Access (individuals with special needs) ministries, including: collecting applications, processing background checks and fingerprint requirements, collecting child safety affirmations and scheduling interviews with staff.
  • Provide financial support for KQ, including: handling disbursement requests, setting up and tracking expense accounts, requesting reimbursement for ministry expenses and ordering supplies.
  • Provide newcomer ministry support, including: collecting new family information, enrolling new families, and following up with welcome info for new families.
  • Provide logistical support and coordination for quarterly ministry events designed for families and children (registrations, room reservation, food orders, etc.).
  • Assist with KQ staff and volunteer team meetings, including: scheduling and reserving rooms, preparing reports, agendas and minutes, ordering food, etc.
  • Assist with data management in Ministry Platform, including: ensuring all staff and volunteers have met appropriate milestones, family household information is current, downloading ministry reports, creating event registrations, etc.
  • Assist in maintaining organization of KQ spaces and ensuring they are safe and welcoming environments for children.
  • Assist in adhering to MBC’s Child Safety Policy.
  • Respond to general KQ ministry requests (emails, phone calls, etc.)
  • Track Sunday attendance for all KQ ministry areas and report numbers to the KQ Director.
  • Assist with communications for KQ, including writing ministry updates for families and managing the NextGen Newsletter.
  • Manage the KQ social media page.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of KQ Summer Camp and attend/serve as a staff leader.

Ministry Collaboration:

  • Reports to and meets regularly with the KQ Director.
  • Supports KQ staff with Sunday programming for children, as assigned by the KQ Director. This may involve leading as a Sunday service coordinator or a small group leader in nursery, preschool or elementary ministries.
  • Meets weekly with MoCo KQ staff to discuss day-to-day ministry strategy and evaluate its overall effectiveness.
  • Meet bi-weekly with MoCo NextGen staff to evaluate overall ministry strategy for partnering with families in discipling the emerging generation at MBC MoCo.
  • Collect information from staff that is necessary for the weekly NextGen Enewsletter.
  • Collaborate with the MoCo Welcome Teams Leader to ensure NextGen check-in team is supported and runs smoothly on Sundays.
  • Coordinate with other MoCo staff & leaders, such as Location Administrator (for graphics and promotion), Operations Coordinator (for room or A/V maintenance as needed in KQ spaces) and volunteer ministry leaders (for midweek KQ room usage).
  • Assist with any other MoCo Location events outside of Kid’s Quest as required by the Location Pastor (e.g., church picnics, prayer nights and family events).

Qualifications

  1. Must be a passionate disciple of Jesus Christ who continually seeks to abide in Christ and demonstrates the biblical requirements for leaders.
  1. Must have a minimum of two years of administrative experience.
  2. Must be able to quickly transition from one project to another and be able to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  3. Must be able to work well with others as an encouraging and supportive team member.
  4. Must be detail oriented.
  5. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Must have a high level of computer knowledge.
  7. Must be able to relate to children and their families and have a passion to see families grow in their faith together.

  3. Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.

Working conditions

  • The KQ Ministry Coordinator is part-time position (25 hours a week) and typically works Sunday-Thursday but may be required to work some nights and weekends for special projects.
  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones.
  • This position requires up to 5% local travel.
