With grant funds from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), DOHMH is undertaking a new initiative that will meet critical infrastructure needs and make possible strategic investments that will have lasting effects on public health. Investments and improvements through this initiative will help modernize DOHMH’s foundational capabilities and data infrastructure, enabling it to partner in complex health and health care environments and, in turn, support better public health outcomes, including COVID-19. This initiative supports larger efforts to rebalance investments in public health and more equitably serve communities and populations.

The selected candidate will be an employee of Public Health Solutions, a nonprofit organization which is the fiscal and administrative manager of the grant but will work be supervised by DOHMH. This is a grant-funded position ending in November 2027.

Division of Disease Control:

The Division of Disease Control (DIS) serves as the infectious disease arm of DOHMH and includes seven bureaus including Division Management and Systems Coordination (DMSC). The Division of Disease Control serves to prevent infectious disease illness and death in New York City. The Division achieves this by conducting disease surveillance, investigations, and research, health education and marketing, an providing selected infectious disease services, e.g., laboratory diagnosis, medical treatment, case management, and vaccination. The Division of Disease Control works to identify, prevent, and control the transmission of more than 90 infectious diseases.

Bureau of Division Management and Systems Coordination

DMSC leads administrative, surveillance, informatics, preparedness, policy, communications, community engagement, and racial equity and social justice activities for the Division of Disease Control, and guides the strategic use of Division resources to advance innovative and effective policies and programming.

Job description:

DMSC seeks a Project Coordinator to support the award portfolio within the Division of Disease Control and establish processes and procedures to manage projects. This individual will routinely work with staff across the Division and Agency to monitor progress toward grant milestones, facilitate budget changes, and provide project updates to leadership. In collaboration with the Senior Project Officer, the Project Coordinator will assess workflows, policies, and procedures and propose approaches to more efficiently use resources across the division and agency.

Duties:

  • Support the development of project management policies and procedures
  • Draft, compile, review, and track budget and program modification requests for grants
  • Coordinate and collaborate with colleagues in IT, HR, Finance, Disease Control bureaus, Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response, and external partners to track project progress
  • Schedule and assist in meetings monitoring grant milestones and drawdown
  • Maintain documentation for grants and other assigned projects using MS teams and other project management systems and tools
  • Gather and review compiled performance measures on grant progress for completeness, accuracy and consistency
  • Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate for this position must be a proactive and self-motivated individual with the ability to work in teams and in a highly dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders and timelines.
  • Bachelor’s degree w/ minimum 3+ years of work experience
  • Prior project management experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Teams and Visio
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Public health experience preferred
  • Salary - $70,000 - $70,000

  • Ability to manage and report complex information.
  • Experience with data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Desire to grow professionally and develop new skills and willingness to work outside of their comfort zone.
  • Experience working with the public health sector and coordinating projects engaging multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Additional Information:

  • This is a temporary grant-funded position ending in November 2027.
  • This individual must reside in the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) by their confirmed start date.
  • Preference may be given to individuals residing in New York City (5 boroughs) or surrounding New York State counties.
  • This individual will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies.
