What you’ll do: 

The endoscopy/patient care technician will contribute to optimal patient outcomes by providing delegated patient care activities within specified limits. She/he will function under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. The endoscopy technician will also assist in other areas of the Surgical Center as needed. She/he reports to the Clinical Director. 

ACCOUNTABILITIES: (include, but are not limited to) 

  • Assist the RN in implementation of a plan of care for the patient having an endoscopy procedure. 
  • Anticipates physician needs and provides scopes, supplies and equipment in a safe manner. 

  • Organizes, orders and maintains supplies according to Surgical Center standards. 

  • Provides patient safety in all aspects of job activities. 

  • Collaborates within the gastroenterology team and other healthcare professionals to ensure quality of care. 

  • Assists with preparation of the patient and procedure room before and after the procedure under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. 

  • Helps prepare the patient prior to the procedure, assists the patient with changing into johnnie, applies EKG leads, B/P cuff, and O2 saturation monitor. 

  • Assists in transporting patient to and from procedure room. 

  • Practices Standard Precautions and follows infection control policies and procedures. 

  • May assist during procedure with biopsies, snaring polyps, applying abdominal pressure, clip application. 

  • Assists in the cleaning of the procedure room and preparing for the next patient. 

  • Cleans, decontaminates, disinfects and properly cares for all endoscopes. 

  • Helps to assemble and check equipment for proper functioning. 

  • Orders all endoscopy supplies and stocks procedure room. 

  • Assists in the postoperative area as needed. 

  • Provides nourishment to patients. 

  • Cleans pre and post-operative bays and stretchers following infection control procedures. 

  • Empties laundry as needed. 

  • Helps transport patients to cars. 

  • Stocks and maintains linen supplies. 

  • Attends and participates in Surgical Center meetings and in-services. 

  • Maintains patient confidentiality. 

  • Cooperates with all members of the team in achieving the Surgical Center’s goals. 

  • Reports potential and/or adverse events appropriately. 

 

 

Who you are: 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma or equivalent.  

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year experience as an endoscopy technician.  

KNOWLEDGE: 

  • Working knowledge of office equipment and Software 

  • Familiarity with HIPAA, insurance regulations, policies, procedures, and other regulatory policies  

  • Medical office procedures, policies, practices and medical terminology, telephone protocol and professional etiquette 

  • Understanding of electronic medical systems

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to communicate professionally (i.e. using expressive vocabulary that communicates a complete and detailed message, avoiding spelling errors, employing a respectful tone) 

  • Ability to maintain enthusiasm while facing a high volume and a large variety of duties 

  • Ability and interest in learning procedures and software functionalities that could improve the effectiveness and efficiency of individual and department efforts 

  • Organized, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task 

  • Extremely reliable, patient and professional 

  • Reacts calmly and effectively under stress  

  • Interprets, adapts and applies guidelines and procedures appropriately 

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective and professional working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers and the public by demonstrating empathy and tact  

  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude, the ability to work effectively with a diverse population, and the ability to demonstrate patience and professionalism 

  • Promotes teamwork through collaboration, represents the practice in a professional manner, and maintains the strictest confidentiality on all patient issues

PRIMARY WORKING ENVIRONMENT:  

This position, like all positions within a medical organization, may be exposed to blood and body fluids, specimens, toxins, chemicals, x-rays/lasers, contagious diseases and odors, all associated with patient care/services.  This position must follow all universal precautions associated with working conditions and includes proper attire, hygiene, safety procedures and compliance to all policies, standards and regulating laws in effect.  Exposure to patients and public, must be personable, work may be stressful at times accommodating unique demands form each physician and their staff. Organizational, memorization and multitasking skills used regularly.
