What We Do: 

Woodcraft Rangers offers full-spectrum afterschool enrichment with an emphasis on creating a positive environment. Our programs include summer learning and outdoor education for nearly 15,000 youth aged 4 to 18 years old. Additionally, we offer Lifecraft, a career and college advancement program focused on the long-term academic and career goals of our over 700 staff members.

Role Overview: 

As the Director of Talent Acquisition at Woodcraft Rangers, you will play a strategic role in shaping the future of our workforce during a period of significant growth. Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Human Resources, you will be responsible for the overall leadership and direction of the talent acquisition function. This includes developing and implementing innovative recruitment strategies that align with our organizational goals and rapid expansion plans. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring that we attract, hire, and retain the best talent to meet the demands of scaling our operations across a growing number of partner schools and programs. A key aspect of your role will involve creating and fostering lasting community relationships, leveraging these connections to enhance our talent pool and support our ambitious growth objectives. You will be a key driver in promoting our mission and values to prospective employees, and in building a strong employer brand in the Los Angeles community and beyond. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Innovative Recruitment Practices: Develop and implement various levels and methods of recruitment to bring in new talent, utilizing innovative approaches to talent acquisition. 

  • Team Leadership and Idea Generation: Guide and inspire the talent acquisition team with creative strategies for effective recruitment, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. 

  • HR Technology and Systems: Regularly evaluate the efficiency of existing HR systems and technologies. Identify areas for improvement and suggest new technologies or systems that could enhance recruitment and operational efficiency. Stay abreast of emerging technologies in the HR field, ensuring Woodcraft Rangers leverages the most effective tools and systems for talent acquisition and management. 

  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Regularly report to leadership on recruitment trends, hiring analytics, and candidate demographics. Provide insights into potential areas for talent attraction and strategic recruitment planning. 

  • Strategic Planning with Leadership: Collaborate with leadership to develop and implement recruitment strategies that align with organizational goals and growth plans. 

  • Community Outreach and Talent Attraction: Engage with various communities and networks for talent attraction. Develop partnerships and initiatives to enhance Woodcraft Rangers' presence and appeal in these communities. 

  • Diversity and Inclusion Advocacy: Embed diversity and inclusion principles into every aspect of the recruitment process, aiming to create a workforce reflective of the communities we serve. 

  • HR Events and Recruitment Initiatives: Play an instrumental role in executing HR events such as job fairs and recruitment events. Guide the planning and implementation of these events to maximize their effectiveness in attracting top talent. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. 

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of recruitment experience, with a track record of successful talent acquisition strategies. 

  • 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role within HR. 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of HR policies, legal and compliance regulations related to recruitment and employment. 

  • Experience in building and maintaining successful partnerships. 

  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in reporting trends, candidate sourcing analytics, and recruitment strategy efficacy. 

  • Experience with or knowledge of various HR systems and staying abreast of emerging technologies in HR and talent acquisition. Familiarity with Jazz HR and ADP is an asset. 

  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws, with a focus on California-specific regulations. 

  • Ability to build and execute core Talent Acquisition playbook activities (sourcing, screening, assessing, closing). 

  • Experience in a similar-sized organization or non-profit sector is advantageous. 

  • While not required, bilingual abilities in English and Spanish are considered beneficial. 

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite. 

  • Demonstrated experience in working with ethnically and culturally diverse communities, along with a comprehensive understanding of the unique needs of high-need areas in Los Angeles, including knowledge of the existing educational systems, youth development principles, and related programs. 

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required for all employees engaged in in-person work with staff or clients. 

  • Valid LIVE Scan, TB Clearance, and CPR Certification (provided by Woodcraft Rangers). 

Skills: 

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and guide a team towards achieving recruitment goals. 

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, skilled in articulating complex ideas to various audiences. 

  • Outstanding time management abilities, capable of managing multiple projects concurrently. 

  • Competence in training and leading staff and effectively participating in conferences. 

  • Strong capability in building and fostering relationships with a wide range of individuals including educators and community partners. 

  • The capacity to adapt to evolving organizational needs and objectives. 

  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy. 

  • Strong self-motivation and self-learning abilities. 

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment. 

  • Consistent display of poise and professionalism in all situations. 

    Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing is required during working hours. 

  • The ability to travel across the Greater Los Angeles area, using either a car or public transportation, is necessary several times per month.

  • Effective communication skills are required, necessitating the ability to speak clearly and hear well. 

  • Occasional lifting and/or moving of objects weighing up to 40 pounds may be required.

  • The typical noise level of a standard work environment. 

  • Stable internet access is required for effective work-from-home performance. 

    Status: Full Time 

    Salary Range: $95,000 - $125,000 per year
