Job Description

A well-established law firm in Winston-Salem, NC, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Criminal Law Legal Assistant to join its growing team. While the firm handles a variety of legal matters, this role will provide critical support to two dedicated criminal law attorneys.

Responsibilities:

Conduct legal research related to criminal law, including statutes, case law, and legal procedures
Assist attorneys in preparing legal documents, such as motions, pleadings, and discovery requests
Interview clients and witnesses, gather information, and prepare case summaries
Organize and maintain case files, ensuring all documents are complete and up-to-date
Schedule appointments, manage attorney calendars, and track deadlines
Prepare exhibits and presentations for court appearances
Attend court hearings, trials, and depositions with attorneys, providing real-time assistance
Communicate professionally and courteously with clients, witnesses, law enforcement officials, and court personnel
Conduct client intake interviews, explain legal processes, and manage client expectations
Maintain a strong understanding of the criminal justice system in North Carolina
Independently identify and solve problems, taking initiative to anticipate attorney needs

Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years of experience as a Criminal Law Legal Assistant or Paralegal
Strong understanding of criminal law principles, procedures, and legal terminology
Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and work independently
Highly organized and detail-oriented with a strong work ethic
Assertive and professional demeanor with the ability to effectively manage client interactions
Experience in a fast-paced legal environment preferred
Must be able to travel to courthouses within the greater Winston-Salem area
