Family Law Legal Assistant
Location: Waukesha, WI
Schedule: Full-Time | 40 Hours Per Week
Work Arrangement: Onsite
A well-established Wisconsin law firm is seeking an experienced Family Law Legal Assistant to join its Waukesha office. This position provides direct support to a partner whose practice focuses on family law, municipal law/municipal litigation, and general litigation, with family law being the primary area of support.
We are looking for a seasoned legal professional who can step into the role with minimal training, work independently, and effectively manage a busy practice. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment.
Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive legal and administrative support to an attorney with a family law-focused practice
  • Draft, proofread, and finalize correspondence, pleadings, motions, and other legal documents
  • Prepare and file court documents and ensure compliance with court procedures and deadlines
  • Maintain attorney calendars, schedule hearings, mediations, depositions, and client meetings
  • Communicate professionally with clients, court personnel, opposing counsel, and third parties
  • Manage case files, deadlines, and document organization
  • Assist with discovery, trial preparation, and case management tasks
  • Handle confidential and sensitive client information with discretion and professionalism
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of legal assistant experience required; 5+ years strongly preferred
  • Prior family law experience is highly preferred
  • Experience supporting litigation matters and working within court systems
  • Strong knowledge of legal procedures, court rules, and filing requirements
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail, proofreading, and document formatting abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience with legal practice management, document management, or calendaring software is a plus
