Job Description
The Arc of Palm Beach County is a dynamic, community-based nonprofit serving and advocating for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Position Summary:

This position is directly responsible to the Group Home Manager; the Residential Direct Service Provider (DSP) must maintain open communication with this person. The Residential Direct Service Provider (DSP) provides care and support to Adults with Developmental Disabilities in a group home setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct care and support to clients by assisting and supporting each client as they engage and complete activities of daily living(ADL).
  • Assisting and supporting ADL’s includes but it not limited to the following: Instruct and assist all residents with all areas of self-care needed, including, but not limited to feeding, toileting, tooth-brushing, handwashing, shaving, dressing, hair-care, and laundry.
  • Prepare meals for the residents and encourage as much resident participation as possible.
  • Supervise and assist residents with meal consumption.
  • Administer all medication ordered by a physician following medication administration policies and maintain accurate documentation of it.
  • Notify Residence Supervisor when less than a 7-day supply of medication is noted.
  • Maintain accurate records including program plans data sheets, case notes incident/seizure reports and daily goal sheets and submit to Residence Supervisor monthly.
  • Maintain accounting of resident and household funds.
  • Maintain accurate records including daily attendance, case notes, incident/seizure reports, daily goal sheets, resident house meeting and fire drills. Submit to Residence Supervisor monthly.
  • Provide physical, behavioral and/or functional training and support to clients in residential, center, and community settings, i.e., shopping, cooking, transportation, home management as outlined in the implementation plan.
  • Promote social integration, when required, by identifying and assisting in the utilization of community resources.
  • Assist residents in choosing appropriate leisure and recreational activities.
  • Coordinate and conduct outings.
  • Transport residents to and from community activities, day programs, medical appointments and other functions as assigned and maintain mileage log.
  • Always supervise and be aware of the whereabouts of residents.
  • Maintain accountings of resident and household monies.
  • Exhibit conduct that always meets agency policies and standards.
  • Maintain an objective approach to job duties, free of personal values or philosophies.
  • Understand that all participant information is confidential and not to be discussed or shared outside the agency, to include public or social settings.
  • Ensure each resident’s right to privacy.
  • Respect the rights and dignity of all program participants.
  • Provide information for all meetings pertaining to clients.
  • Ensure adherence to all house rules.
  • Follow household chore list assigned by Residence Supervisor to assist residents in acquiring housekeeping skills.
  • Assist in the ongoing maintenance of the facility, especially cleaning and resident laundry.
  • Report needed repairs or maintenance problems to Residence Supervisor and in his/her absence Director of Residential Program.
  • Maintain communication log on long distance calls.
  • Maintain open communication with Residence Supervisor, co-workers, families, and support coordinators.
  • Maintain communication logbook with reports including community activities with residents, problems with the house and/or residents and any other information including contact regarding residents with employers, family, etc.
  • Adhere to The Arc’s Emergency Procedure booklet in any emergency.
  • Provide basic first aid and CPR when necessary and obtain any emergency medical services needed.
  • Participate in investigations in any matter related to the agency, the members of staff or people we serve.
  • Arrive on time as per the assigned schedule.
  • Ensure appearance is neat, clean, and dress is appropriate for the activities of the day.
  • Attend all training required by Residence Supervisor or Director of Residential Program.
  • Must complete all Agency and Programmatic required training within established timeframe.
  • Maintain the ability to meet the physical requirements of this position as always related to duties.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Residential.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • At least one year of experience working in a medical, psychiatric, nursing or childcare setting or working with persons who have a developmental disability experience required.
  • College or vocational / technical training equal to 30 semester hours, 45 one-quarter hours or 750 classroom hours can substitute for the required experience
  • Must possess and maintain a current Florida’s Driver’s License and state minimum requirements for auto insurance.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity equipment/machinery such as copy machines, printers etc.
  • Occasionally works in outdoor conditions will need to occasionally move about, positioning self, ascend and descend.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • The ability to observe, identify, and recognize details at close and long range.
  • Frequently moves boxes weighing up to 20 pounds across office for various needs.
