Dragon Flight Summer Camp Aide

8 - 8.5 hours per day, 25.5 - 40 hours per week (flexible)7:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., Monday - Friday

Tuesday, May 28 - Friday July 19

Hourly Rate:  $15.50  per hour

SUMMARY: Assists in the supervision of children ages 4.5-15 in the summer camp program. Duties include providing direction, guidance and assistance to students, assisting in effectively handling student discipline situations; ensuring student safety and security, communicating with staff and children, cleaning the programs environment areas, and assisting the Group Leaders/Leads/Director in preparing for and implementing a variety of educational, enrichment and recreational activities.

  • Guide and assist students during crafts, art projects, games and other activities to engage children in program experiences and meet individual children’s needs.
  • Monitor and guide student behavior during activities and encourage and support positive behavior.
  • Support the group leaders/leads/director in implementing indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Keep the storage areas, tables and toys clean and sanitized.
  • Assist children with special needs; assist with supervision of children on the playground and during other activities; transport, assist, and supervise children on field trips.
  • Communicate by action, demeanor, tone of voice and attitude that every child is safe and important. Build trust, nurture and care for children. Communicate in a positive and respective way with parents, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Assist with the monitoring/tracking of children and monitor the security of the building and playground at all times to ensure children’s health and safety. Assist in providing general First Aid/CPR when needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training as required/appropriate.
  • Comply with the Colorado Department of Human Services, the County Health Department; and the school’s policies, rules and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

Must be 16 years old. Program aides who are under eighteen (18) years of age must work directly under the supervision of the program director or program leaders and will not work alone with children. Experience in the supervision of children is preferred. 

Qualifications suitable for tasks assigned.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • CPR, First Aid, and Standard Precautions certifications required within 90 days of hire date.
  • Mandated Reporter certification prior to working. 
  • Annual continuing education which includes a minimum of fifteen (15) clock hours of ongoing training each year for all staff. At least three (3) clock hours per year must be in the focus of social emotional development. The fifteen (15) clock hours of training does not include recertification in First Aid and CPR. 

Ongoing training and courses must demonstrate a direct connection to one or more of the following competency areas:

  1. Child growth, development, and learning, or courses that align with the competency domains of child growth and development;
  2. Child observation and assessment;
  3. Family and community partnership;
  4. Guidance;
  5. Health, safety and nutrition;
  6. Professional development and leadership;
  7. Program planning and development;
  8. Teaching practices:
    1. Each one (1) semester hour course with a direct connection to the competency area listed in section 7.712.41, j, 1-8, taken at a regionally accredited college or university may count as fifteen (15) clock hours of ongoing training.
    2. Training hours completed can only be counted during the year taken and cannot be carried over.
    3. Colorado Department of Human Services 15 clock hours of training must be completed within the first 6 months.

TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of child development. 
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, and practice safe work habits.  
  • Maintains generally positive attitude. 
  • Observes all school policies and procedures.  
  • Ability to meet attendance standards and work the hours necessary to perform the essential functions of the job. Regular attendance is an essential function of the position and necessary for the efficient operation of the business. Employees are expected to be on time and punctual for work, conforming to established work hours. It is recognized that there are times when a person must be absent due to illness or other reasons. 
  • Personal computer and keyboarding skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies and building and department procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with supervisors and coworkers, school employees, parents and the public at large. 
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

Reports to Dragon Flight Before and After Care, Enrichment, and Summer Camp Director. Direct reports: This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities
