Accountability: Summer Day Camp Director reports to the Recreation Manager

Job Classification: Seasonal, part-time, hourly, non-exempt

Season: Approximately May 12 through August 15, 2024

About: Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden inspires a love of nature and its beauty through unforgettable outdoor experiences. The nearly 400 acres of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden provides visitors with a chance to reconnect with nature in all seasons. The property welcomes guests to spectacular gardens, a conservatory dedicated to the display of tropical plants and orchids, sparkling fountains, nearly 6 miles of trails and a dog park.

The Summer Day Camp Directors are responsible for the implementation of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden outdoor recreation programs under the supervision of the Recreation Manager. In this role, the Summer Day Camp Director will assist with curriculum development and execution, group management, and assessment for adult and youth programs including, but not limited to camps and field trips. An ideal candidate will be self-motivated, have good interpersonal skills, eagerness to learn, and the ability to work both inside and outside during the summer hours. This person must be highly organized with an eye for detail and quality programming. Must be self-motivated and able to motivate others.

Responsibilities:

· Understands the importance of each guest to the Garden and drives excellence to ensure an optimal experience in every way.

· Provides regular communication with the Recreation Manager regarding camp matters.

· Assists in securing activities and field trips for camps.

· Supervises camps in all aspects of daily summer camp operations.

· Responsible for supervising camp staff and always ensures supervision of campers.

· Plans, organizes, and oversees recreational activities which may include arts and crafts, music, sports, special events, special populations, and additional specialty programming.

· Manages inventory and communicates material needs to the Recreation Manager.

· Cleans and organizes camp locations as needed.

· Provides positive reinforcement to the youth campers.

· Exemplifies the Garden Mission Statement and supports staff, departments and leadership in pursuing and achieving goals.

· Performs any other duties needed to help drive to our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our values.

Requirements:

· Exhibits a passion for the mission of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.

· Must be 18 years of age or older.

· Successfully pass a standard background review.

· Able to work nights, weekends, and some holidays.

· Must possess a valid driver’s license.

· Must be able to perform physical requirements of programs at the most rigorous level.

· May experience exposure to extended periods of sun, rain, cold temperatures, wind, water and potentially uneven terrain that may contain trip hazards.

· Must be able to hear distress noises and hear and see distress signals in a variety of environments, keeping safety in mind at all times.

· Must be able to sit, stand, walk, grab, pull and push objects, squat down, stoop, kneel, crouch and jump.

· Must be able to perform physical requirements of all certifications.

· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Experience & Education:

· Experience working with children.

· Job-related education or training is preferred.

· CPR and first aid certification is highly recommended.
