Position Title: Community Events & Volunteer Coordinator

Location: Whatcom & Skagit County

Reports to: Senior Director of Community Engagement

Hours: 25-29 hours per week (.70 FTE); non-exempt position

Wage Range: $20.98 – $24.03 per hour; wage dependent on relevant qualifications, experience, and education

The Community Events and Volunteer Coordinator is tasked with facilitating and supporting Northwest Youth Services community events alongside the Senior Director of Community Engagement. This role will help with pillar projects and initiatives like monthly giving campaigns, meetings, events, and other community engagement opportunities. This position will also coordinate and act as a supervisory point of contact for all volunteers with the organization. This position reports to the Senior Director of Community Engagement and will serve as a consistent mission-focused ambassador for Northwest Youth Services.

key responsibilities

Organization-wide Collaboration

  • Commitment to mission, NWYS values, and customer service orientation internally and externally. Act as liaison between the agency and the community.
  • Collaborate closely with NWYS’ Whatcom Services, Skagit Services, and Program Operations Teams.

Community Events

  • Support the Senior Director of Community Engagement with the management of the Annual Luncheon and Healing Centered Gathering and 3-5 smaller fundraising and cultivation events throughout the year.
  • Support the management of volunteers at all Annual Luncheon, Healing Centered Gathering, and 3-5 smaller fundraising cultivation events throughout the year.
  • Commitment to learning and utilizing community-centric fundraising principles.
  • Work collaboratively with the entire Community Engagement Team.
  • Support community engagement team efforts, as needed, including speaking engagements, tabling opportunities, and other visibility events.

Volunteer Coordination

  • Field and respond to inquiries about volunteering from the community.
  • Automate and streamline volunteer onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Support with developing accurate reports and projections on volunteer hours and events to support annual strategic planning and budgeting.
  • Utilize and maintain the volunteer database as appropriate.
  • Coordinate placements and onboarding of volunteers.
  • Provide supervisor support to all volunteers with NWYS;
  • Other duties as assigned.

qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least 1 year of experience with coordinating community-centered events, including fundraising events
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Publisher
  • Knowledge of professional use of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Careful attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage many different ongoing projects, and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences
  • Proof of Washington State Driver’s License, driving record, and auto insurance;
  • Requires background checks.

Required within first 30 days of employment:

  • CPR/First Aid/Bloodborne pathogens certifications required;
  • Must have a negative TB test; and
  • Full understanding of the CPS reporting requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Non-Profit Management, Fundraising, or related field
  • 2 years’ experience with coordinating donor-centered fundraising, including fundraising events
  • Knowledge of issues faced by young people at-risk of/experiencing homelessness; comfortable working with young people
