Position Scope/Job Functions
The Space Systems Support specialist will be required to have a multidisciplinary skillset. A major responsibility will be software development, install, and support for satellite ground systems. The candidate should be comfortable working with Linux systems including simple scripting and databases with a background in programing languages such as Python or C/C++. The specialist will also have an active role in satellite operations and acting as a liaison for the group in support of government Space Domain Awareness (SDA) satellites both on-orbit and in-development. Duties in this area include on-site support for anomaly resolution as well as hardware & software design, installation, testing, development, and debug. Candidates will be considered who have backgrounds in either satellite operations or software development but must have a strong desire to learn both.
The ideal candidate should have knowledge of orbital mechanics in both Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Geosynchronous (GEO) regimes. The candidate must be a motivated self-starter with a strong ability to quickly learn new technologies and techniques on the job. The specialist role offers a unique opportunity to pair software skills with operational experience.
Skills: Required
• On-site hire to the Laboratory’s field site in Colorado Springs, CO
• Familiarity and experience with Linux operating systems
• Strong desire to develop, educate, and support next-generation space program operations
• Software programming and debug in: Python, Matlab, and/or C++
• A basic understanding of system administration (Linux, Windows, VMs) and a working knowledge of hardware servers/workstations. Linux scripting (Bash Scripting & cron tab) experience is desired.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a government (DoD) TS/SCI security clearance. Candidate with existing active SCI is desired.
• The ability to work in a team and communicate clearly and effectively
Skills: Preferred
• Education or experience in satellite operations
• Experience with Oracle and MySQL databases
Education/Professional Certifications
BS plus 1 year minimum relevant experience, Associates Degree plus 3 years minimum relevant experience, or Technical School Certificate plus 3 years minimum relevant experience
