Job Description

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Individual Giving Officer is responsible for the identification, relationship building, gift cultivation and solicitation, and stewardship of individuals, and those with private foundations and donor designated funds. The Individual Giving Officer also develops and implements strategies and programs for cultivating relationships through communications, personal contacts, and events.

Duties and Responsibilities MAJOR GIVING

1.    Identifies, cultivates, and solicits major donor prospects (generally 4+-figure gifts) for contributions to Jenesse Center, matching organizational needs with donor interests, researching donor capacity and donor interrelationships with Jenesse supporters, volunteers and staff.

2.    Works closely with Jenesse staff leadership, Board of Directors, and any campaign committees to manage prospect assignments, maintaining accurate and timely records of all interactions with donors and progress in the relationship building and/or solicitation strategy for each prospect.

3.    Cultivates major gift prospects, investing the necessary time and energy to build a relationship designed to understand the donor/prospect goals with the expressed purpose of alignment with Jenesse programs, mission and objectives. Work to move prospective major donors along the donor pipeline to the point they are ready to receive an appropriate ask based upon donor intent and interest.

4.    Personally oversees a portfolio of approximately 50 "major gifts-qualified" relationships, and applies a custom cultivation strategy for each donor, utilizing organization and volunteer leadership where appropriate.

5.     Stewards major gift donors. Develop stewardship strategies that continue the major gift relationship for future gifts and planned giving opportunities.

6.    Serves as an integral part of the team that designs major initiatives or campaigns, coordinating the development of campaign materials, activities, and events.

7.     Other duties as assigned.

ANNUAL GIVING

Responsible for developing and implementing programs of cultivation and solicitation for donors and prospects at all levels with the objectives to grow the number of donor and move donors progressively up the "ladder" of giving consistent with their financial capacity.

Align the focus of solicitations with the critical needs of the organization as determined by staff and board leadership.

COMMUNICATIONS

Work in collaboration with the agency Communications Team to create cultivation and solicitation messaging including all forms of materials needed such as fundraising brochures, solicitation packages, videos, etc. utilizing external professional services as appropriate.

Create and distribute at least 3 general donor appeals/solicitations per year.

Distribute newsletters, announcements as appropriate, determine most effective timing and vehicles.

EVENTS

Use events for cultivation, fundraising, donor recognition and stewardship as part of the fundraising program.           Focus on developing or utilizing existing events/activities to accomplish this goal, working collaboratively with staff and board members as appropriate.

DEVELOPMENT SERVICES

As appropriate, responsible for the following tasks:

Gift Administration - Interfacing with the Accounting Dept re: recording gifts, restrictions, and reports needed for reporting to donors on the use of their funds.

Sending gift acknowledgements (letters, receipts) and pledge payment reminders. Entering and maintaining the Donor/Prospect database for use in solicitation strategy, donor history information, prospecting, wealth screening. Conduct periodic contact info updates.

Utilize the Raiser's Edge system to provide periodic reports on giving analysis, and composition of the donor community.

Donor Recognition - design and maintain, and implement on an on-going basis)

Minimum Qualifications

Five years of professional level fundraising experience in a non-profit setting. Experience with major gift fund raising and capital campaigns, with demonstrated history of securing major gifts over three or more years is preferred.

Bachelor's degree in non-profit management, marketing, or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis. CFRE preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

•         Knowledge of effective private fundraising techniques and practices, including campaign design, solicitation techniques and planned giving programs.

•         Knowledge of the Association of Fundraising Professionals code of ethical conduct, and the Donor Bill of Rights.

•         Knowledge of volunteer management techniques.

•         Basic knowledge of planned giving techniques and vehicles.

Skills in:

•          Private fund raising.

•         Communicating both in written and oral form. Ability to write clearly and elegantly with an expert grasp of language, grammar, and punctuation. Experience writing original development documents.

•          Operating a computer and various supporting software packages, including Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Power Point, and Razor's Edge.

•          Requires proficiency in database utilization and related technology.

Ability to:

•          Ability to connect with potential donors promoting the needs of Jenesse Center in a way that results in giving.

•          Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

•         Ability to work with an ethnically and culturally diverse population.

•          Ability to provide effective and responsive service to donors, volunteers, and community contacts.

•          Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, resolve problems, and make decisions.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

•          Must be able to travel regionally. Maintain CA Driver's License.

•          Must be a self-starter who regularly sets and achieves activity and results­ driven goals.

•          Recurring early/late hours (weekend/early morning/evening events and meetings).

•          Minimal physical exertion required.

Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000 Depending upon education and experience.
