Job Description

Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced Construction Engineer to join our team at an engineering firm supporting municipalities and private clients in the Chicago area. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in municipal engineering, with 5-10 years of experience as a Resident Engineer or Construction Engineer. This position requires expertise in water distribution, storm and sanitary sewer improvements, roadway enhancements, roadway lighting, and stormwater management. The Construction Engineer will ideally hold a Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification (preferred) and be certified in IDOT Documentation. Proficiency in computer software including ICORS, Microsoft Office, and AutoCAD is essential for this role.

Responsibilities:

Construction Oversight: Provide comprehensive oversight and management of construction projects related to water distribution, storm and sanitary sewer improvements, roadway enhancements, roadway lighting, and stormwater management. Ensure that projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Project Management: Manage all aspects of construction projects, including project planning, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, and coordination with contractors, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies. Develop and implement project plans, specifications, and standards to ensure project success.

IDOT Documentation: Maintain certification in IDOT Documentation and ensure that all construction documentation, including field reports, progress reports, pay estimates, and record drawings, meets IDOT standards and requirements. Coordinate with IDOT officials and inspectors as needed to facilitate project approvals and inspections.

Quality Assurance: Implement quality assurance procedures to ensure the quality and integrity of construction work. Conduct regular inspections, audits, and quality control checks to verify compliance with project specifications, standards, and codes. Address any deficiencies or non-compliance issues promptly and effectively.

Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, including clients, municipalities, regulatory agencies, and the public. Communicate project status, updates, and milestones through written reports, meetings, and presentations. Respond to inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a timely and professional manner.

Team Leadership: Lead and mentor project team members, including engineers, inspectors, and support staff. Provide guidance, direction, and support to ensure that project goals and objectives are achieved safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality and professionalism.


Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field required.

Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification preferred.

5-10 years of experience as a Resident Engineer or Construction Engineer in the municipal engineering field.

Certification in IDOT Documentation required.

Strong knowledge and experience in water distribution, storm and sanitary sewer improvements, roadway enhancements, roadway lighting, and stormwater management.

Proficiency in computer software including ICORS, Microsoft Office, and AutoCAD.

Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
