Job Description

General Summary

Under limited supervision delivers organization development, organizational learning, and inclusion services for the Medical System. 

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.  They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

  • Supports the implementation of the OD&I strategy in support of the University of Maryland Medical System and Human Resource Services strategies.
  • Provide services at multiple hospitals across a geographic region within the University of Maryland Medical System. 
  • Travels to any UMMS hospital as necessary to provide service delivery.
  • Delivers organization development, organizational learning, and inclusion services at assigned hospitals.
  • Collaborates with and supports other Human Resource Services employees in the attainment of strategic objectives.

Organization Development

  • Consults with Executives, Directors, Managers and Supervisors of assigned Local Hospitals.
  • Working independently, leads, executes, and measures OD initiatives at both the System and Local level including: strategic and operational planning; change management; organizational culture and values; talent review and succession planning; leadership development and coaching; surveys and analytics; performance management; and group effectiveness.

Organizational Learning

  • Delivers system-wide learning initiatives including: needs assessments; curricula development and learning paths; management and employee development; career and development planning; learning design, delivery and evaluation; and trainer development. 
  • Designs, implements, analyzes, and reports on a periodic learning needs assessment in support of management and employee development.
  • Facilitates leadership development sessions associated with the UMMS Healthcare Leadership Institute.
  • Designs, develops and implements curricula and learning paths for management and employee development.
  • Gathers data and generates reports on system-wide training analytics.

INCLUSION

  • Supports the implementation of the system-wide Inclusion strategy in support of the UMMS strategy.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Organization Development, Human Resource Development, I/O Psychology, Organizational Behavior, or commensurate field required.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • Five (5) years relevant professional experience in organization development, organizational learning, or cultural competence.
  • Demonstrated experience as an organization development /management consultant (internal or external). 
  • Demonstrated success delivering complex projects.
  • Experience with CPP instruments (i.e., MBTI and FIRO-B) and DDI training resources preferred.
  • Hospital industry experience preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the fundamental concepts, principles, practices and procedures related to organization development, organizational learning, and cultural competence.
  • Demonstrated experience forging relationships and consulting with leaders including Executive, Director, Manager, and Supervisor levels.
  • Advanced personal computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Other important computer skills include: email, web browsing and search, and learning management system.
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required to work successfully with leaders and employees at all levels in the organization.
  • Maintain professional affiliations as appropriate, and participates in professional activities, to keep abreast of developments in education, training and development.
